FrequencyDomain–DatafromtheDUTisgatheredasVoltageoveraperiodoftime.Formostpurposes,leavingthedatainthetimedomainisnotveryusefulsoitisconvertedusingaFastFourierTransform(FFT.Thisputsthedataintoaformsowecanseehowstrongthevibrationisatparticularfrequencies.Wecallthisthefrequencydomain.Inthefrequencydomaingraph(rightbelow,weseethattheamplitudeofthevibrationrisessharplybetween160Hzand174Hzandrisesslightlyto178Hz,whereitdecreasessharplyuntilabout189Hz.Thisismuchlessobviouswhenwelookatthesamedatainthetimedomain(left.

Duetosmalldifferencesbetweenindividualsystemsandindividual
accelerometers,therearesmalldifferencesbetweendatafromthesamesamplewhentestedondifferentsystems.Calibrationeliminatesthisvariationsomakesitpossibletoapplystandardsandcomparedataobtainedfromdifferentsystems.ThismayalsomakeiteasierforoperatorstoquicklyrecognizewhichDUT’spassandwhichfail.
