Jaycee Keeney is a student at Stonewall Jackson Middle School in West Virginia, the USA. About two weeks ago, he had a chance to act as a lawyer in a bank robbery(抢劫)case at a local courthouse(法院). Standing in the courtroom, the 14-year-old boy asked a witness(目击者)a lot of questions, trying to find out the truth.

Keeney, along with some of his classmates, took part in a mock trial(模拟法庭). It is a part of the West Virginia Law Adventure programme. The programme allows middle and high school students in the state to write criminal trial scripts(审判稿本). They can also act the parts of the criminals, the innocents(无罪的人)，the lawyers and the judges(法官)in a mock trial in a real courtroom.

"The programme is very useful to teach teenagers about the legal system(法律系统)and how it works," said Kandi Greter, an official for the programme. "So they can get a personal understanding of the system. " According to Greter, there were three possible situations to choose from this year: a bank robbery, an assault(人身侵犯)or a murder.

Keeney felt good about taking part in the programme. "It teaches us to grow into outstanding people, " Keeney said. "And it makes me think about being a judge someday. "

At Western Greenbrier Middle School，interested students worked hard on a mock murder trial after school with their teacher. With the teacher's help, they wrote the scripts, handed them to the programme officials and acted their parts in the courtroom.
