The situation of studying abroad and expenditure of Chinese students

Recently, with the development of our economy, more and more teenagers go abroad to study further. Thanks to reform and Opening-up in the 80s of last century, studying abroad is no longer a unreachable thing for ordinary family.

As far as studying countries are concerned, the United States is still the first place for most Chinese students to study abroad. Followed by the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, and this situation is hard to change in the short term due to America is still the most powerful contrary in the world no matter in economic, technological or military field. From 2010 to 2013, continuous data analysis showed that the United States is still the first choose country for overseas students in China, and the choice rate is as high as 44%, followed by Britain (15%), Australia (7%), Canada (6%), France and France, China (3%), Germany (3%), New Zealand (2%), etc. It is noteworthy that with the further liberalization of the policy of admitting international students to the countries of small and medium-sized languages in Europe and Asia, the market share is gradually being carved up in Europe, Asia, France, Germany, Spain, Singapore, Japan and other countries. These countries are becoming the new favorite of Chinese students.

From the popular majors studying abroad, most of the students who went abroad to read business major in China accounted for second and third respectively in science, engineering and art majors.

In the educational level of overseas students and the age of study abroad, data analysis shows that in recent years, the number of foreign students studying abroad for postgraduate degree has continued to decline, while the proportion of international students studying abroad has continued to rise. Especially in the last two years, the growth rate of Chinese students studying abroad has also been increasing rapidly. This means students studying abroad become younger in average age.

According to a report form Xinhua EID and Visa, this paper analyzes the consumption situation of Chinese students from the perspective of expenditure structure. Among them, tuition fees accounted for the largest, 22%. Followed by 21% of retail consumer spending. Restaurant consumption accounted for 9%; department stores and supermarkets accounted for 6%; aviation spending accounted for 4%; the remaining for rent, medical, entertainment and other consumer share.

The report also analyzes the way Chinese students pay for their consumption. The analysis shows that the number of Chinese students in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia is the largest. In the first time to pay school fees and tuition fees, the number of people choose to pay more than 61% of the distance payment. Credit card / debit card and telegraphic transfer are the main payment methods for studying abroad. In the last payment, about 33% to 46% of the Chinese students choose to use credit cards. Most of them choose UnionPay cards to pay their tuition and expenditure on daily living. Because that UnionPay card can be smoothly used at 162 countries and regions worldwide. Distribution of UnionPay cards used in the world was shown in Fig.1. And UnionPay card payment has many advantages, such as more safe, convenient and fast.
