In Germany there are different kinds of high schools. Some prepare students for workers, others prepare them for college. All schools are great places for making friends and learning German.

Short days

Most high schools in Germany begin at about 8:00 a.m. and end at about 3:30 p.m. This means your morning will be busy with classes. You will have time to do homework and take part in private(私人的) clubs after school.

Formal setting

In Germany, teachers and students’ relationship is more formal than you might be used to. Teachers are respected and students must use the formal “Sie(德语:您)” when talking to teachers.

Getting to school

Most students take public transport to school or ride a bicycle. Some areas have school buses. It is not common for parents to drive students to school.

Private clubs

In many countries, schools offer official sports and after-school activities. This is less common in Germany. After-school activities are usually organized through private clubs. There are clubs for things like soccer, dance, choir, theatre and almost everything else. Once you are in Germany, ask around at school and talk to other students to find out what private clubs are in your area and meet your interests.

Different states, different schools

Each of Germany’s 16 states has its own slightly different school systems. The school system in Brandenburg will be a little different from the system in Bavaria for example. Where you live, your knowledge level and your age will decide what school you can attend.

45. For high school students in Germany, which is NOT the common transport to school?

 Dear Editor,

I’m a Senior 1 student in a middle school. This term, my favourite teacher, Miss Mao, no longer teaches us. I want to see her, but I’m afraid that she no longer likes me and I don’t want to trouble her. I really miss her. What should I do?

                                                                     Tian Yan

Dear Tian Yan,

It’s bad luck that you have lost your favourite teacher. But, if she is still in your school, nothing can stop you going to see her. When she isn’t busy, ask her if she minds having a quick chat. You can then tell her she was your favourite teacher. Everyone is happy to know they are liked!

If she has left the school, it will be more difficult to meet her. It will be hard, but remember people always come and go in our lives. We can’t rely on them being with us all the time.

You may be sad to say goodbye to her, but we can remember and learn from her. Think of her best qualities.

You could also try looking for similar qualities in your other teachers. Study hard and give your new teacher a chance. In time, you might start to see that he or she has different qualities to learn from.

As a young adult, Noah Webster was a teacher. At this time, the colonies were fighting for independence from Britain. Yet the books that American children used in school all came from Britain. The books were all about British people and British places. Webster wanted books that would mean more to American children. So he wrote three books that used American examples --- a grammar book, a spelling book, and a reader. These books were very popular, and millions of them were sold.
Webster was interested in changing the spellings of words. He wanted words to be spelled the way they were pronounced. For example, he thought the word “head” should be spelled “hed”, and the word “laugh” should be spelled “laf”. People liked Webster’s suggestions.
However, few words were actually changed. One group of words that were changed were words in which an unpronounced “u” followed an “o”. That is why Americans write “color” and “labor”, and the British write “colour” and “labour”.
With the money he made from his books, Webster was able to write. It was the first American English dictionary, published in 1828.Webster’s dictionary had over 70000 words and gave the meaning and origin of each. To this day. Webster’s work is the example that most dictionaries of American English follow.

Betty and Harold have been married for years. But one thing still puzzles (困扰) old Harold. How is it that he can leave Betty and her friend Joan sitting on the sofa, talking, go out to a ballgame, come back three and a half hours later, and they’re still sitting on the sofa? Talking?

What in the world, Harold wonders, do they have to talk about?

Betty shrugs, Talk? We’re friends.

Researching this result called friendship, psychologist (心理学家)Lillian Rubin spent two years interviewing more than two hundred women and men. No matter what their age, their job, their sex, the results were completely clear: women have more friendships than men, and the difference in the content and the quality of those friendships is “marked and unmistakable.”

More than two-thirds of the single men Rubin interviewed would not name a best friend. Those who could were likely to name a woman. Yet three-quarters of the single women had no problem naming a best friend, and almost always it was a woman. More married men than women named their wifehusband as a best friend, most trusted person, or the one they would turn to in time of emotional distress (感情危机) “Most women, ”says Rubin, “identified (认定) at least one, usually more, trusted friends to whom they could turn in a trouble moment, and they spoke openly about the importance of these relationships in their lives.”

“In general,” writes Rubin in her new book, “women’s friendships with each other rest on shared emotions and support, but men’s relationships are marked by shared activities.” For the most part, Rubin says, interactions (交往) between men are emotionally controlled—a good fit with the social requirements of “manly behavior.”

“Even when a man is said to be a best friend,” Rubin writes, “the two share little about their innermost feelings. Whereas a woman’s closest female friend might be the first to tell her to leave a failing marriage, it wasn’t unusual to hear a man say he didn’t know his friend’s marriage was in serious trouble until he appeared one night asking if he could sleep on a sofa.”

56. What old Harold cannot understand or explain is the fact that__________.

A. he is treated as an outsider rather than a husband

B. women have so much to share

C. women show little interest in ballgames

D. he finds his wife difficult to talk to

57. Rubin’s study shows that for emotional support a married woman is more likely to turn to__.

A. a male friend B. a female friend C. her parents D. her husband

58. According to the text, which type of behavior is NOT expected of a man by society?

A. Ending his marriage without good reason. B. Spending too much time with his friends.

C. Complaining about his marriage trouble. D. Going out to ballgames too often.

59. Which of the following statements is best supported by the last paragraph?

A. Men keep their innermost feelings to themselves.

B. Women are more serious than men about marriage.

C. Men often take sudden action to end their marriage.

D. Women depend on others in making decisions.

60. The research done by psychologist Rubin centers around__________.

A. happy and successful marriages B. friendships of men and women

第二节 信息匹配 (5小题;每小题2, 满分10)

请阅读下列文章和相关信息,并按照要求匹配信息。请在答题卡上将对应题号的相应选项字母涂黑。首先,请阅读以下有关“怎样才能学好英语”的内容:

How to Learn English

A. Motivation for learning English What is necessary to learn English well? You have to change your life a little — do crazy things like talking to yourself in English or spending your evening reading a dictionary. In order to do these things, and do them regularly, you have to enjoy doing them. If you are like most learners and don't feel like doing these things, you will have to work on your motivation(interest).

B. Getting a good English dictionary You need a good English dictionary. An English dictionary is the most important thing that you will need when learning English. Successful English learners use their dictionaries all the time — that's how they learn to use new words.

C. Learn English without mistakes You can damage your English by writing and speaking. Your grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation can get worse because of practice. When you speak or write and you make mistakes, you teach yourself bad habits. These bad habits may be difficult to eliminate(erase). The solution(way out) is simple: Avoid mistakes! Try to say or write only correct English sentences. (avoid避免)

D. Learning English pronunciation Why should you study English pronunciation? Because pronunciation is the biggest thing that people notice about your English. You should study it even if you think you can already communicate in English.

E. Input - getting English into your head What is input and why you need it? Input is a short word for "English sentences that you read or listen to". When you read and listen to English sentences, parts of the sentences stay in your memory, which lets you build similar sentences yourself. Input——not speaking, writing or grammar tests——is what you need to use English grammar and vocabulary like a native speaker.

F. SuperMemo and learning English What is SuperMemory and what can it give you? It is an advanced computer program which can help you build an impressive knowledge of English. How does it work? You add some knowledge to SuperMemo (e.g. 100 English words), and every day you review part of the knowledge (e.g. 5 words). In the process, SuperMemo collects information about your memory.

以下是五位同学对各种英语学习方法的理解与阐述,请将以下五位同学的阐述与上面How to Learn English文段中的相关学习方法进行匹配:

Jack Anderson Study pronunciation (all the English sounds and at least basic English words) before you open your mouth. Get lots of English sentences into your head (by reading and listening) before you open your mouth or write in English. To be always correct, you need to follow good examples. When you speak or write, be careful, slow, and use simple language.

Margaret Lillian Improving your desire for learning English: We share our psychological tricks that helped us enjoy learning English and that you can use to boost your motivation and make a difference in your English. (1. desire欲望; 2. psychological心理上的,精神上的) Alice Fingelhamm You shouldn't learn English by grammar rules because grammar rules are difficult to memorize and because building sentences by using grammar rules is very slow. You can't use English fluently if you have to think about grammar rules.

Peter Florian Learn to say every English sound correctly. The sounds of English and the International Phonetic Alphabet are shown in the table. You can listen to recorded examples of each sound. What is good English pronunciation? Your pronunciation is good if it is understandable and pleasant. (International Phonetic Alphabet国际音标表)

Tracking My Growth

The process of growing up is complex for every person, for there are many influential factors in a person’s growth as well as the development of his personalityAs for me, what has affected me most in my both growth and personality are family and friends, the two equally important factors

After one is born, the first surroundings is the family in which he will grow upFamily plays a significant role in shaping children’s character because it’s children’s most direct source of knowledge and experiencesThose who are brought up in good families tend to possess many pleasant characters and vice versa

On the other hand, friends in some ways influence him more rapidly than families doFriends have many different opinions and personalitiesDiscussing with them builds up his personalityFrankly speaking, I get lots of valuable things from my friends

Family offers me warmth and careFriends give me strength and horizonsTherefore, both of them are most influential in my growth

W: Sam, can you get us tickets for the Liverpool match?

M: Well, I’ll do my best, but I can’t promise anything.

Text 2

W: I saw Carl at the hospital. I wonder if his wife is ill.

M: No, she is fine. His daughter just had a baby and he was visiting her, I think.

Text 3

W: Sorry, I’m late for my flight and I’m in a hurry. Where is Gate A21?

M: Go downstairs and turn left, walk straight and you’ll see it.

Text 4

M: Have you been working out, Helen? You look so full of energy these days.

W: Yeah, as a matter of fact, I’ve been running every morning for two months now.

Text 5

M: I’m afraid you can’t leave your car there, miss.

W: But I shall only be a few minutes. I’m just going in to pick up a package.

M: I’m afraid not, miss. Parking is not allowed here. You can park in the next street. It’s usually quiet there.

Text 6

M: Shopping for furniture can be such a pain! It’s so crowded here!

W: Let’s write down the prices first. A sofa is 4000; bookshelves are 2500 each; a bed is 1200; and a dining table and chairs are 6000 a set. I think we can get the sofa in Ikea, the bed, and the dining table and chairs from Design 2000.

M: That’s good. Wait a minute. One more thing, we need a lamp for our study, remember? I think we can get a nice one from Pricerite for about 150. Let me see, we don’t need a bedside table anymore.

Text 7

W: Here’s your bill, sir.

M: Oh, thank you. Let’s have a look at it now. Goodness, it’s a lot more than I expected.

W: Would you like me to explain anything, sir?

M: Just a moment. Yes, what’s this charge for 21.50 marked “J”?

W: “J” is a charge for a long distance telephone call, sir. Did you make a telephone call that night?

M: Yes. I remember now. Good heavens! We must have talked for a long time. And these ones, “L” for 32.40, and here’s another, 9.50. What are they for?

M: It’s your 50th birthday. You decide.

W: I’d like you to organize a surprise party for me.

M: Sylvia, I know what you want. But a surprise party is impossible. Don’t you remember when I tried to organize a surprise party for your 40th? You found out right away.

W: Don’t remind me. I was so disappointed.

M: I remembered to get everything ready. But I just forgot to tell people that it was supposed to be a surprise. But the party wasn’t disappointing. I mean, it wasn’t a surprise, but it was great.

W: Well, I really don’t care what we do. Do whatever you want.

M: Oh, come on, Sylvia. Let’s plan something interesting. We could have a swimming party, or a covered dish supper. It could be fun.

W: Let’s just go out to dinner with a few friends.

M: But why?

W: Because it’s easy. I don’t want to have to do all the planning.

W: What are some of the problems of doing a part time job as a college student?

M: Schoolwork suffers. Because I don’t have as much time to study as when I didn’t have a part-time job. I have had to give up things I enjoy, like sleep and football. I can’t get into the social life because I have to work right after class. Some of my friends have stopped calling me. I also miss TV.

W: What do you do in a day?

M: I get up at 7:00 to make an 8:00 a.m. class. I have classes till 1:30. And then, I drive to the supermarket where I work. I work till 7:00 p.m. And then I drive home and eat dinner. After I take a shower and rest for a half hour, it’s about nine. This gives me only a couple of hours to study. My eyes start to close well before I go to bed at eleven.
