AccordingtoastudyconductedbyresearchersattheUniversityofPittsburghintheUS,watchinghorrormoviescanraiseourmood,unitepeopleandboostourconfidence.
Inthestudy,262adultswereaskedtoenterahauntedhouseattraction.Inside,theyweremetwithaseriesofintensescenariosoveracourseof35minutes,andwereaskedtorecordtheirfeelingsbothbeforeandaftertheexperience.Atthesametime,theresearchersalsomonitoredtheirbrainwaves.
“Webuildaspecialclosenesswiththosewearewithwhenwe’reinanexcitedstate,”MargeeKerr,oneofthestudy’sauthors,toldTheAtlantic.“We’resocialandemotionalbeings—weneedeachotherintimesofstress,sothefactthatourbodieshaveevolvedtomakesurewefeelclosetothosewearewithwhenafraidmakessense.”
Inaddition,beingscaredinasafeplacecouldbeagoodwaytoboostourconfidence.
“Beingscaredinasafeplaceisasourceofenjoymentandmakesusfeelgoodphysicallyandcanevenserveasaconfidenceboostbyremindingusthatwecanmakeitthroughascarysituationandwearestrong,”KerrtoldTheIndependent.
Accordingtotheresearchers,theparticipantsweremorelikelytobehappierandlessanxiousandtiredaftertheylefttheattraction.That’sbecauseinthisintensecondition,theirbrainsreleasedmoredopamine,achemicalwhich“generatesafeelingofexhilarationthatcontinuesafterthethreathaspassed,”reportedBusinessInsider.

研究中,262名成年人被邀请进入一处鬼屋。待在鬼屋的35分钟里,他们看到了一系列紧张的场景,并被要求记录下自己进入鬼屋前后的感受。与此同时,研究人员也对他们的脑电波进行了监测。
研究人员发现,这些参与者在离开鬼屋后大多更加开心,没有那么焦虑和疲倦了。据“商业内幕”网站报道,那是因为在紧张的环境下,他们的大脑释放出了更多的多巴胺,这种化学物质“在威胁消失之后,依然能产生一种兴奋的情绪”。
此外,这种感觉或许会将人们团结在一起。据“对话”网站报道,体验鬼屋就像“跑5000米的比赛,或者是征服一面高难度的攀岩墙”。这意味着处于恐怖环境之中的人们更有可能感到前路未卜,并成为彼此的依靠。
“当我们处于一种兴奋的状态时,我们会对身边的人产生一种特别的亲密感。”该研究的作者之一玛吉·克尔在接受《大西洋月刊》采访时表示,“我们是有感情的群居生物——我们在感到压力时会需要彼此,所以当我们感到害怕时,我们的身体会令我们对身边之人产生亲近感,这点是有道理的。”
除此之外,在安全的地方受到惊吓,也是增强自信心的一种好方式。
