French children who are 15 and under will no longer be allowed to bring smart devices (设备)to school. Lawmakers in France voted on July 31 to ban cell phones, tablets, and other Internet-connected devices from school grounds. The ban will start in September.

“These days, the children don't play at break time any more” Jean-Michel Blanquer said. He is France's education minister. "They are just all in front of their smartphones, and from an educational point of view, that is a problem."

Students who bring these devices to school have to keep them in their backpacksturned off. The law makes an exception for disabled students. It also allows students to use devices during extracurricular(课外的)activities.

In the United States, smartphones seem to be making a reappearance in schools. That's according to a study by the National Center for Education Statistics. About 66% of public schools banned devices in 2015. That was down from 91% in 2009. Why the change? Liz Kolb, a professor at the University of Michigan School of Education, told Gizmodo that parents are concerned about security in schools. “In the rare case that something may occur” she said,"the belief of some parents is that a cell phone could be a useful tool for safety. ”

A new study led by a team of Western University professors has proved it wrong to claim (声称) that getting better at a brain training game can translate to improved performance in other untrained cognitive (认知的)tasks.

This study set out to test whether hours of brain training in one game could give someone an advantage in a second game that uses the same area of the brain. If that result was foundit would provide evidence to claims that brain-training apps can improve working memory, which is vital for learning and remembering information and in staying away from memory loss.

But researchers found that simply didn’t happen participants' high scores in the first game(the one they trained on)didn’t improve performance in the second game, and were equal to scores obtained by the untrained control group.

“We assumed that if you get really good at one test by training for a very long timemaybe then you'll get improvement on tests that are quite similar. Unfortunately, we found no evidence to support that," says Bobby Stojanoskilead author of the paper. “ Despite hours of brain training on the first game, participants were no better at the second game than people who were tested in the second game, but hadn’t been trained in the first one."

Stojanoski concludes that there are other proven ways to improve memory and brain health " Sleep better, exercise regularly, eat better, education is great—that’s the sort of thing we should be focused on. If you' re looking to improve your cognitive self, instead of playing a video game or playing a brain training test for an hour, go for a walk, go for a run and socialize. These are much better things for you. ”

32. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?

A. The wide influence of the study. B. The high complexity of the study.

C. practice brain training tests D. take part in social activities

Dear Charlie,

I’m delighted to know you are coming to China with your family during the Chinese Spring Festival, which is a great chance for you to experience Chinese culture personally. Here I am writing to offer you some advice.

It would be a good idea if you could make some preparations before your travel. First of all, learn some simple Chinese, especially the daily expressions, which makes it easier for you to communicate with the locals wherever you go. Besides, to get yourself familiar with some Chinese local customs and traditions may help you behave properly during your stay. What’s more, you can learn how to use chopsticks beforehand so that you can taste different varieties of Chinese food more conveniently.

I hope you will find my advice helpful. Wish you a pleasant journey in China.
