阅读理解(人物故事)练习题含答案及解析

一、高中英语阅读理解人物故事类

1阅读理解

When I was small, my mother and I would walk to our local library in Franklin Square. As we didn't always have access to a reliable car, walking hand in hand was the most convenient way to get anywhere. It was at story time for children that both my mother and I made lasting friendships.

Today, I am fortunate to live around the corner from the Cold Coast Public Library in Glen Head and a short walk to the Sea Cliff Children's Library. My 18-imonth-old son, Colin, and I find ourselves in Sea Cliff several times a week, meeting and making friends. Well, that is what many people don't understand-a library is more than books; it's a community.

Sure, the library in Franklin Square was the place where I was introduced to Judy Blume novels. But it was also the place where I got my first email address in 1997. At the library, friends and I learned how to research colleges and search for scholarships on the Internet. The library was the place where we sometimes giggled(咯咯笑)too loudly, and where the librarians knew us by name. Their knowing our names wasn't a bad thing. When I came home from my first term at Binghamton University, Mary LaRosa, the librarian at the Franklin Square library, offered me my first teaching job.

I now teach reading at Nassau Community College. My students are often amazed that they can check out books via their smartphones and virtually(虚拟地)visit a variety of Long Island libraries. The app used by Nassau and Suffolk county public libraries, as well as the college library, makes their homework easier by helping them find resources. Even though they can't always easily visit their local libraries, the library is always with them.

1Why does the author consider herself lucky today?

A. She has become her mother's best friend.     B. She has access to a reliable car now.

C. She can meet friends at the library.                D. She lives close to libraries.

2What does the underlined word "that" in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A. Socializing in a library.                                    B. Reading books in a library.

C. Visiting a library with a family member.         D. Building parent-child friendship in a library.

3What is the author's attitude to her students' way of visiting libraries?

A. Cautious.                      B. Favorable.                      C. Doubtful.                      D. Disapproving.

4Why does the author write the text?

A. To discuss why libraries are important.           B. To express her deep love for libraries.

C. To explain how libraries change.                     D. To introduce her favorite libraries.

2阅读理解

Paris is the city of dreams. If you plan to head to Paris for a study period, then perhaps a little reality check is in order. But my experience was a romantic one.

I paved my path to Paris through an exchange program. On arrival in Paris, I was constantly reminded of the official processes I had to complete — forms to be filled in, meetings to attend, the list seemed endless.

Then the real work began. Once classes were underway, I found myself volunteering to do oral presentations and assignments first, rather than last. This method proved to be very helpful.

Once I had finished class for the week, I had an ever-increasing list of museums to visit, neighborhoods to explore, and cafés to sit in. Read books about Paris. Talk to locals and other foreigners living there. But the one thing that reading a book or talking to someone cannot do is to provide you with the experience of wandering Paris on foot. The people watching, the sounds of the city, the colors as the seasons change, they all add to the ecstasy that I experience in Paris as an exchange student.

After spending five months wandering through the charming neighborhoods, I fell in love with the atmosphere that came out from every open door, and with every spoken word. There is something comforting about walking to the market each Sunday to enjoy the beautiful display of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. There is warmth in saying bonjour to the passers-by.

On my last day in Paris, I confidently said, "Bonjour Monsieur," as I passed the little store down the street. I guess the best part about going on exchange in Paris is falling in love with the city in your own way. And I know mine is unique and special to me, my own little pieces of Paris.

1What does the underlined word "ecstasy" in Paragraph 4 probably mean?

A. Courage.                     B. Imagination.                     C. Happiness.                     D. Reputation.

2What does the passage mainly tell us?

A. An exchange student's life.                             B. Charming neighborhoods.

C. An exchange program.                                    D. A traveling experience.

3Beyond reading books, which experience would the author treasure most?

A. Enjoying coffee in his spare time.                   B. Greeting people in French in the street.

C. Buying vegetables in the market.                   D. Hanging around in Paris.

4According to the passage, what left the author the deepest impression?

A. The friendly people he met in Paris.

B. The special culture he experienced in the city.

C. The academic achievement he made in his study.

D. The presentations and assignments he did in class.

【答案】 1C

【解析】【分析】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了作者作为一名交换生在巴黎的所见所闻,内心感受等。

1)考查词义猜测。根据作者对在巴黎街上漫步的喜爱及第四段中的“The people watching, the sounds of the city, the colors as the seasons change, they all add to the ecstasy that is experiencing Paris as an exchange student”可知,人们的注视,城市的声音,季节变化时的色彩,都增加了作者作为交换生体验巴黎的喜悦。由此推知,划线词的意思是快乐,幸福。故选C

2)考查主旨大意。根据第一段中的“But my experience was a romantic one. I paved my path to Paris through an exchange program”可知,作者作为一名交换生来到巴黎,他认为自己的巴黎之行非常浪漫。从第二段到最后,文章详细叙述了作者在巴黎的所见所闻,内心感受等。故整篇文章讲述的是一个交换生在巴黎的经历。故选A

3)考查推理判断。根据第四段中的“The one thing that reading a book or talking to someone cannot do is to provide you with the experience of wandering Paris on foot. I discovered some of my favorite places in Paris by wandering”可知,读书以及和人交谈无法提供步行在巴黎闲逛带给你的体验。通过闲逛,作者在巴黎发现了一些自己最喜欢的地方。由此可知,除了读书,作者最珍惜的经历是在巴黎闲逛。故选D

4)考查推理判断。根据最后一段中的 “The best part about going on exchange in Paris is falling in love with the city in your own unique way. Everyone's experience of Paris is different. I know mine is unique and special to me, my own little pieces of Paris”可知,给作者留下最深的印象是他在这个城市的独特经历。

A biologist once criticized for stealing eggs from the nests of the rarest bird in the world has been awarded the "Nobel Prize" of conservation after his methods saved nine species from extinction.

Professor Carl Jones won the 2016 Indianapolis Prize --- the highest accolade in the field of animal conservation --- for his 40 years of work in Mauritius, where he saved an endangered kestrel from becoming the next Great Auk.

When the 61-year-old first travelled to the east African island in the 1970s, he was told to close down a project to save the Mauritius kestrel. At the time there were just four left in the wild, making it the rarest bird on Earth. However, he stayed, using the techniques of captive breeding (人工繁殖), which involved snatching eggs from the birds' nests and hatching(孵化)them under incubators, prompting the mothers to lay another set of eggs in the wild.

A decade later, the number of Mauritius kestrels had soared to over 300 and today there are around 400 in the wild. The biologist has also been necessary in efforts to bring other rare species back from the edge of extinction, including the pink pigeon, echo parakeet and Rodrigues warbler.

Prof Jones was awarded the $250,000 (£172,000) prize at a ceremony in London.

"As a young man in my 20s, I certainly didn't enjoy the stress and the tension of the criticism I received," reflecting on the start of his career, he said the Maurutius kestrel project had been seen as a "dead loss" at the time. In the 1970s there was fierce opposition to the captive breeding techniques, with critics arguing that they were too risky and took the emphasis off breeding in the wild.

Prof Jones has devoted his whole life to his work, only becoming a father for the first time eight years ago, at 53. He said receiving the prize was particularly important to him, because it proved that his work to save birds was right.

1What does the underlined word "accolade" mean in Paragraph 2?

A. return                                B. level                                C. honor                                D. research

2According to the passage, Great Auk is ________.

A. an endangered bird            B. an extinct bird            C. a popular bird            D. a fierce bird

3What can we know from the figures in Paragraph 4?

A. Taking eggs from the nests has worked well.

B. The wild environment for kestrel has changed a lot.

C. Kestrel has adapted to the life in the wild.

D. It's difficult to protect kestrel.

4Prof Jones' idea of taking eggs from the birds' nests ________.

A. was proved of no use                                       B. was widely accepted

C. was promoted officially                                   D. was criticized by some people

【答案】 1C

Recently whenever I turned on my computer or my mobile phone, news about the great effect of Hurricane Harvey on thousands of people caught my eyes. We saw many unfortunate events. However, there were also the bright news that confirmed the goodness of mankind. As a journalist, I wrote many human interesting stories during my career. That's why the story about the guys in the bakery caught my eyes.

When the staff at a Mexican bakery chain in Houston were trapped inside the building for two days, they didn't sit there feeling sorry for themselves. They used their time wisely after flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. While they were waiting for the eventual rescue that came on Monday morning, four decided to make as many loaves of bread as possible for their community.

The flood water rose in the street outside. They took advantage of their emergency power supply to bake bread. They used more than 4,200 pounds of flour to create hundreds of loaves and sheets of sweet bread. Although the water kept rising, they continued baking to help more people. By the time the owner managed to get to them, they had made so much bread that we took the loaves to loads of emergency centers across the city for people affected by the floods.

The store manager, Brian Alvarado, told The Independent, "Whenever a disaster occurs, nobody should just feel forlorn. Insteadwe should take positive action to save ourselves and help others. Our acts of kindness will make a big difference."

5阅读理解

It is obvious that all of our childhood memories are not accidental. When you are a child, every scent, every sound, every move, every toy, the first day of school, the first kiss, the first step… Everything together makes what is the personality of a man. All these are pieces of one whole entity.

I was about 6 years old. My mom's best friend left to another town and asked my mom to stay at her place with me for two days in order to look after her two sons. One was a little older than I was, and the second boy appeared to be super grown-up, for he was already fourteen. I always enjoyed staying at their place.

I remember the second day we were supposed to have the come-back party for my mom's friend at her place. I woke up. Mom went to work and reminded me to be nice and clean by the time she came back. I stayed with Tony, the older of the boys and suddenly somebody called him and though he was not permitted to leave me alone-he left. He said it would not be long. But it took him forever. I realized that I was alone. I could not come out of the house, so I opened the window. I was so desperate. So lonely. So betrayed. At that moment I pulled the curtain so strongly that I fell on the floor. And there I was standing-one little criminal-desperate to escape and knowing that I would be punished for destroying the curtain that was not even ours.

But then something changed. I stopped weeping. I looked around and realized that I was in a safe place, and that mom would come back and kiss me no matter what I had done.

This was a moment of pure happiness, not the happiness of getting a new toy or a dog, or going to the party of your best friend. It was the moment of clarity for me-the first time in my life when I realized that I was happy to have my mom and that I was safe. My eyes saw the world in different shades that moment. And by the way-I was not punished for the curtain. I fell asleep on my mom's knees.

3What happened to the author when he was 6 years old?

A. His family moved to another apartment.

B. He always fought with mom's friend's children for toys.

C. He was punished by his mom for destroying her friend's curtain.

D. He was locked inside a house and failed to get out by the window.

4In the last paragraph, the word "It" refers to______.

A. the moment he received a present from his mom

6阅读理解

When my father married my mother in 1943 he gave my mother a 1937 crown coin and told her to keep it in the back of her purse and not spend it. This would mean that she always felt that she was protected and would always have money if she really needed it.

When I was married in 1970 my husband who had heard this story obtained a 1937 crown for me and I have always kept it in my wallet and I have always had enough for my needs.

A friend recently fell on hard times partly through external (外部的) circumstances and partly through poor planning. Friends and I have loaned her money, paid her bills, even given her food and tried to teach her budget techniques, but none of them has been a solution. She has just slipped deeper and deeper into financial trouble and depression.

Last week she looked pale and unwell, very depressed and hopeless. I then thought about how the crown, a reminder of another's care and love, had protected me so I went to the bank for a $100 dollar bill. I told my friend the story and asked her to keep the $100 in the back of her wallet. It turned out that she didn't have a wallet so she put the money in a little pencil case where she kept her coins. She immediately felt better. "I feel rich and thank you for being a good friend" she said and we were both a bit teary.

The reason for passing this on is not to praise any generosity on my part but to show the power of "random acts of kindness". I went home and remembered a little wallet I had that I'd never used and thought "I'll give that to my friend." I opened it and inside found $100. The universe is very just and if your heart is open the reward always comes.

A. His concern for her.                                          B. His pity and protection for her.

A. In the back of her wallet.                                 B. In a little pencil case.

C. In the pocket of her raincoat.                          D. In the layer of her suitcase.

3What can he inferred from the last Paragraph?

A. The author became rich all of a sudden.

B. The author's friend would receive a wallet as a gift.

C. The author's friend was not touched by her story.

D. The author felt uncomfortable when receiving the bill.

4What can be the best title for the text?

Losing a wallet is one of those careless acts most of us have come across, at some point or the other in our lives. While most of us tend to move on after mourning over the lost necessities, there are a few lucky ones who get them back, with the help of the police or the generosity of the person who finds it.

And then there is Hunter Shamatt, who not only got back his wallet but with some added happiness that was tagged along!

Hunter was on his way to attend his sister's wedding on a Las Vegas-bound flight when he realized that he has misplaced his wallet, sometime during the journey. Hunter's family reached out to the Frontier flight to enquire if someone had handed it over to them. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the missing wallet.

But wait. The story was far from over. Just a week after Hunter's sister's wedding, he received a package in his mail. And guess what? There was his wallet! Surprisingly, the wallet was not the only thing that was inside the package. It also had a handwritten note for Hunter which turned out to be a bonus! The piece of paper read,

"Hunter, Found this on a Frontier flight from Omaha to Denver — row 12, seat F wedged between the seat and wall. Thought you might want it back. All the best.

P.S. I rounded your cash up to an even $100, so you could celebrate getting your wallet back. HAVE FUN!!!"

Moved by the touching gesture, Hunter's mom, Jeannie Shamatt, decided to write a post on Facebook giving a detailed description of the incident. She also urged everyone to share the post as she would like to meet and greet the person behind the act of kindness, personally.

Now, thanks to the astonishing power of social media, the post finally reached the man behind the note. The man was identified as Todd Brown and it was one of his co-workers who made sure Jeannie Shamatt's post reaches his colleague. Jeannie turned to Facebook again to thank Brown and his family for restoring her faith in humanity.

"I try to teach my children to do the right things in life, help people when you can regardless of the outcome. This story is more about restoring faith in people than anything. We hear a lot of bad news but not enough good news. I personally want to thank Todd Brown and his wife for restoring faith that there are amazing people out there."

A. Todd Brown sent it back.                                 B. The police mailed it back.

It was a morning in January. The jet stream (急流)had dipped down, causing the Arctic cold to reach the mountains of my home. It was only 2 degrees outside, but the cold wind made it feel like it was 15 below zero. Still, I was kneeling in the snow alongside my house trying to open a tiny door, so I eoukl get in. 1 had forgotten to leave my water dripping the night before and now my water pipes were frozen and my faucets(水龙头)were dry.

The wind cut into me like a knife while I struggled to get two electric heaters in place around the section of frozen pipes. The waterlines were buried except for a small piece that connected up to my house. I put a heater on each side of it, ran the extension cords(软线)into my house and plugged them in. Both heaters roared to life and started blowing hot air on the frozen water pipes. My fingers had already started to go numb, so I stayed inside to wait. I could only hope that this bit of warmth could get my water flowing again. Finally, after twenty minutes, the water started flowing through my faucets again. I went back outside into the biller cold and gathered my heaters up. I looked at the weak January sun shining on the frozen snow and smiled. Then I sent a joy filled with "Thank you" heavenward and returned inside to make myself a hot breakfast.

Sometimes the coldness of this life can get to us as well. It can make our hearts feel icy and frozen. It can keep our kindness and love from flowing out to others. Sometimes, though, all we need is a bit of warnth to get us going again. It can be a simple smile, a kind word, a heart-felt hug, a morning sunrise, a bird's song or any gentle reminder of just how much God loves us. Let us all be grateful for those bits of warmth that gel us going again. And let us all try to be that bit of wannth for others every chance we get.

根据第一段中的“I had forgotten to leave my water dripping the night before and now my water pipes were frozen and my faucets (水龙头) were dry” 可知,头天晚上我忘记了让水龙头的水一直处于滴水的状态,现在水管冻结了,水龙头也流不出水了。由此可知,导致水管冻结的直接原因是由于作者本人的疏忽。故选D

2)考查词义猜测。根据第二段中的“... and started blowing hot air on the frozen water pipe…after twenty minutes, the water started flowing through my faucets again”可知,两个加热器开始向冻结的水管吹热空气,二十分钟后,水又开始流过我的水龙头。此处roared to life表达的含义应该是两台加热器开始正常运转起来。分析选项可知A符合题意,故选A

3)考查推理判断。根据第二段中的“I looked at the weak January sun shining on the frozen snow and smiled. Then I sent a joy filled with "Thank you" heavenward and returned inside to make myself a hot breakfast.”中的smiled“a joy filled with "Thank you"”可知,作者对自己的工作很满意。故选B

4)考查主旨大意。根据最后一段中的“Let us all be grateful for those bits of warmth that gel us going again. And let us all try to be that bit of warmth for others every chance we get.”

At the age of seven, while his friends were spending their allowances on candy and toys, Jose Adolfo Quisocola, Peru, came up with the creative idea of an ecobank which allows kids of all ages to become economically independent and financially wise while helping the environment.

Established in 2012, The Bartselana Student Bank is the world's first cooperative bank for kids. Whoever wants to join has to bring in at least 5 kilograms (11 pounds) of solid waste (paper or plastic) and establish a savings goal. Once accepted, all bank "partners" are required to deposit at least one additional kilogram (2* 2 pounds) of recydables on a monthly basis and obey other requirements, such as attending financial education and environmental management workshops. The waste accumulated is sold to local recycling companies, who, thanks to some clever negotiation by Jose, pay a higherthanmarket rate for everything brought in by Bartselana Student Bank members. The funds received are placed in the individual's account where they collect until his/her savings goal is reached. The account holder can then withdraw his/her money, or choose to leave it and continue to grow for a bigger target.

"At the beginning, my teachers thought I was crazy or that a child could not undertake this type of project," Jose recalls. "They did not understand that we are not the future of the country but its present. Luckily, I had the support of the school principal and an assistant in my classroom."

The youngster's persistence paid off. Today, the ecobank, which now has the support of several local institutions, has ten educational centers and begins accepting applications from kids all across Peru. On November 20, 2018, the young boy was awarded the famous Children's Climate Prize (CCP). "Jose's ecobank is a brilliant way of linking economy and climate impact, both in thought and practice. The potential impact is amazing", a judge said.

Hopefully, Jose's success will inspire more kids and adults to come up with new ideas that create value while helping the environment. As the boy says, "Together we can change the world, we just need an opportunity."

1For what purpose was the ecobank created?

A. To educate children how to spend their allowances.

B. To help children break away from their parents.

C. To raise children's awareness of money and environment

D. To encourage children to buy whatever they want.

2What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?

A. The history of the ecobank

B. The requirements of membership,

C. The wisest way to deal with waste

D. The process of how the ecobank works.

3What challenge did Jose meet at the beginning when opening the ecobank?

A. Lack of enough support.

B. Lack of experience.

C. Lack of investment.

D. Lack of workers.

4What can we learn from the last two Paragraphs?

A. The boy's efforts were made in vain.

B. The ecobank was highly appreciated.

C. The judge thought poorly of the ecobank.

D. The boy's success had no practical values.

5What can be a suitable title for the text?

10阅读短文,从每题所给的ABCD四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Jarrett Little was road testing his mountain bike outside of Columbus, Georgia, when his riding partner, Chris Dixon, stopped suddenly. Something in the distance moving among the trees had caught her attention. It turned out to be a sandy-colored five-month-old puppy.

"He was really thin, ribs showing, and a broken leg," Little told John Parks, a reporter from CBS News. The cyclists fed the friendly pup and shared their water. They also quickly realized that the dog was coming with them, although they had no idea how. They were more than seven miles from downtown and riding bikes. "We couldn't leave him," Little said. "Out there next to the Oxbow Meadows, he was going to become the lunch of an alligator living in the river."

Suddenly, Little had an idea. He carefully picked up his new friend and slipped the 38-pound dog's hind legs (后肢) into the back pockets of his cycling jacket. Then he hung the dog's front paws over his shoulders.

"He was injured, so he wasn't trying to fight," Little says. "He was also happy that we were there, touching him, and hadn't taken off on him."

The group's 30-minute ride into town ended at a bike store, where they got more water and food for the dog. That was when Andrea Shaw, an accountant from Maine in town on business, happened by. The dog made a headed straight for her, licking and "loving on her," says Dixon. Shaw was struck and, after learning what had happened, declared her intentions: "I am keeping this dog."

Shaw called him Columbo and scheduled an operation on his leg. Today, Columbo is living the high life on a farm with a horse, a pony, a six-year-old boy, to keep him company. As Dixon told John Parks, "He is literally the luckiest dog alive."

1Why did Little say they couldn't leave the dog behind?

A. It was friendly and cute.

B. It followed them closely.

C. It had to be taken to hospital at once.

D. It might fall victim to other animals.

2How did Little manage to get the dog together with them?

A. By carrying it in his pockets.

B. By placing it on the bike.

C. By shouldering it on his back.

D. By taking it away with him.

3Who will accept the dog as a pet?

A. Jarrett little.                   B. Chris Dixon.                   C. Andrea Shaw.                   D. John Parks.

4What word can we use to describe the dog's present life?
