At most U.S. theme parks, people do not have to pay for each ride or show. They pay only to enter the park. Then they can see the shows and go on the rides as many times as they want to in one day. Of course, they must pay for any food or souvenirs they buy in the park. Next, we are going to… (fading)

Good afternoon, everyone! Thanks to you hard work on our company and sounds really well over the past twelfths months, so we have decided to give you a day off next Friday to go on a day trip pay for by the company. There were two types of choices, one is the nature choice which is the trips to the lakes. You all know how lovely the lakes are up this time of year and don’t forget to bring alone your working shoes. The bus will be leaving at 8:30 in the morning and gets back at 6:30 in the evening. The second choice is the historical tool which is a trip to a castle. One think though, they will told us that anyone who comes to the castle has to wear soft shoes. The reason for this is that some of the wood floors in the castle are very old. And can be easily damaged by other kinds of shoes. The bus will also be leaving at 8:30 in the morning but will bring you back here at 4:30 in the afternoon. That’s all for me for the moment any questions.

Diana is our dance teacher, and she gives classes in ballet on Wednesday evenings and in modern dance on Thursday evenings. Jim usually takes the football practice sessions, but this year he will be running the basketball club on Saturday afternoons. We think this will be very popular. Steve will now run the football practice. We also have a skating course for beginners, and this will be taken by Kelly, who was last year’s London skating champion, so you’ll be in good hands with her expert advice. The day of this course will be confirmed by the end of this week. Next, you’ll have an opportunity to take a tour of the centre.

Good afternoon, everyone. I’m so glad to be back to the university to give you a talk. First, I’d like to share how I started my career in journalism. When I was sixteen, I worked in a café every Saturday and Sunday. That was really difficult. When I was eighteen, I was a cook in a fast-food restaurant for a few months. The manager wasn’t very nice and the job was boring and badly paid. But the experiences have benefited me a lot of. After university, I was a marketing assistant for four years. It was okay but it wasn’t very interesting. Then I was an office manager. That was good, but it was always the same. I like differences, so I turned to journalism. It’s different every day. I’m often on planes or trains and in hotels and offices around the world and I meet lots of interesting people. It’s a great job, really. So, folks, you’ll never know what job suits you until you’ve tired it. Next...(fade out)

M: I wanted to get the midnight bus to the airport and my flight was at seven o’clock in the morning….so I arrived at the bus stop at 11:30 pm.

W: But you were too late…

M: Exactly! The last bus was gone! I didn’t have money for a taxi and the subway wasn’t running either.

W: What did you do?

M: I decided to spend the night in a café and I didn’t get any asleep.

W:Oh dear! So, what time did you get to the airport?

Hello, everyone. Thank you for coming. My name is Chris Brown, president of the International Student Union of our college. On behalf of all the members of the Union, I’d like to give a brief introduction about our association. The International Student Union was founded in1960. The aim of our Union is to provide the best service for the international students. We arrange short trips each weekend, such as city tours and museum visits. We also organize summer camps during summer vacations and different kinds of food parties at special times. That sounds amazing, doesn’t it? If you ‘d like to join the Union, just send your name and student number via email. And if you are interested in our short trips on the weekend, you can sign up in our office each Wednesday. Remember that some events are quite popular and we have to limit the number of students. Some of the events also require a small amount of fee for transportation. If you want to know more……..

Now, ladies and gentlemen, just a few safety rules before you drive off. The most important one is to stay in your car at all times. Otherwise you might end up as fast food; and you mustn’t feed the animals; sometimes the deer come close if they see you eating, but they don’t need any more food, believe me! Now, never use flash when you take pictures, not even with the little bears hidden in the trees; they might be frightened. Also, you should keep your car windows closed; animals can be very curious! Last week, a monkey jumped into a car and the people were bitten. You are allowed to eat and drink in your cars, of course, but please remember that every car has been given rubbish bags. So throw any rubbish in there and not out of the window. And finally, please, don’t make too much noise. If you listen, you will……

M: You are not going to give it up, are you?

W: Certainly not. I’ll never find another apartment around here. But I don’t like the idea of paying three months’ rent on an empty apartment, either.

M: Perhaps you could let it to someone else.

W: Yes, but to whom?

MLet me see. Oh, I know just the person. An old friend of mine,Jim Thomas, is coming here to do some research this summer, from June to August.

W: No, I haven’t.

M: Hmm?Did you have any problem last time you got your grades?

W: Well, actually, I’m a first-year student. This is the first set of grades. My email address hasn’t changed or anything, so.......

M: Wait, are you talking about your personal email account?

W: Yeah. The school sends us our grades by email, right?

M: No, we just post them on the university website.

W: Are you kidding? I thought they were sent to us by email. Ok, now I feel stupid.

M: Don’t worry about it. Starting college can be pretty confusing;there are a lot of new things you have to get used to.

The exam will be quite thorough, which means you’ll be responsible for all of the subject matter we’ve covered in class. I would suggest you review your midterm papers as well as the textbooks and your class notes. The final exam will take up 50% of your grade in the course. The research project will take up 20%, and the mid-term exam 30%. I’ll be in my office almost all day on Tuesday next week. If you run into any problems, please feel free to drop in. W: Ah, this bus seems to be running late. How long have you been waiting?

M: I’ve been here for at least fifteen minutes now.

Text 2

W: Ive been reading a fascinating book about life in the old west.

M: I wonder if its the same one I read last month.

Text 3

M: Its almost midnight. Why dont we leave these dishes until tomorrow?

W: Good idea. I’m worn out.

Text 4

W: Can you lend me some money for lunch? I left my purse in the car.

M: You bought me lunch last week. Its my turn to treat you.

Text 5

W: I just love this new CD. Have you heard it?

M: I really dont listen to pop music. I prefer classical.

Text 6

W: Good afternoon. Melrose apartments. May I help you?

M: Yes, Im interested in renting a one-bedroom apartment. Do you have any available?

W: No, Im sorry, none are available at this time, but I expect a vacancy in about three weeks. Could I interest you in a two-bedroom?

M: Well, Im a student, and I have to be careful with money. How much more would a two-bedroom apartment cost me?

W: The one-bedroom rents for one hundred and fifty dollars a month. And the two-bedroom is only thirty five dollars more.

M: Is the two-bedroom a great deal larger than the one bedroom?

W: Yes, it is. Also, I might tell you that the one-bedroom doesn’t have a dishwasher. All of our two-bedroom apartments do.

M: When could I see an apartment?

W: How about later this afternoon? Lets see. I have an appointment at 3:30 and another one at four. How about five o’clock this afternoon?

M: That would be fine.

M: Come in. What can I do for you?

W: Professor Donna, are you giving your advanced geography course again next semester?

M: Yes, Im planning on it.

W: I wonder if I could register for it. I know its a graduate course and Im only a junior. But

M: Aren’t you a bit young? I’ve allowed qualified seniors to take the course. And they usually have a hard time keeping up.

W: I know. But the geography of the American west is my favourite interest. And Ive done a lot of reading in the field. Last semester I took Professor Berman’s course and I didn’t find it nearly challenging enough.

M: I see. You certainly aren’t one of those students who are out for easy grades.

W: I should say not. I really want to learn something.

M: Well, Ill speak to professor Berman. If he thinks you’re ready, I’ll let you register.

W: Oh, thanks. Professor Donna. That’s really very nice of you.

Good afternoon, everyone. Today I’m going to talk about a man who is kind of a hero of mine. How many of you have heard about Lewis Pugh? I can see only a few of you have raised your hands. Well, I hadn’t heard of him either until 2007, when I read that he completed a one-kilometer swim in the Arctic Ocean. In a TV interview, he said that when he jumped into the water, the pain was so alarming and so strong that he considered quitting. However, he finished that swim because he wanted to raise awareness about the climate change crisis. Pretty impressive, right? So in this presentation, I’m going to talk about his background, his amazing swims, and his work as an environmentalist. Ok. So Lewis Pugh was born on December 5, 1969 in England. When Lewis was a child, his family lived both in England and in South Africa. When he was in South Africa, his father took him to a lot of nature reserves and wild animal parks. Some people believe these trips excited his interest in animals and the environment. As an environmentalist

Text 8

Well, I’m going to talk about a trip I made across Australia. The transport I used was a motorbike. I didn’t want to use public transport because I wanted to be independent. I had a months holiday, and I made the trip with a friend, a Chinese girl, because I was frightened of travelling alone. I met her at a language school where we studied English together. We traveled along the south coast and saw some of the desert. The bad things about the journey were the rain and the heat, because they made us tired. Yet I have great memories of the trip because I felt really free. We could go where we liked. Some of the interesting places we visited were very difficult to reach on public transport. The motorbike had quite a powerful engine. It was fast and exciting. Also the trip was quite cheap. Best of all, we met a lot of friendly people on the way.
