36 D hold on to 意思为紧紧地抓住。

38 C beyond the reach of 意思是……

41 A the Ellen是船的名字,因此,此处选name

42 D in time 及时;ahead of time 提前;at times有时;on time准时。

44 C“through the darkness and the pathless sea”

45 B 从空后的“had,indeed,__________ (attempted) to sail away from it”及下一段,我们可以知道,船长对此事一无所知。

47 A just as 在这里引导时间状语从句。

IV. A. DCBD

1the island of Great Britain is connected to Continental Europe for the first time since the Ice Age 可以看出the island of Great BritainFrance是由the tunnel连接起来的。

57. C。 第2段第2句话The Queen was accompanied(陪同) on her train journey through the historic tunnel by one of her Rolls-Royce cars which was placed on the train 已明确告知Queen Elizabeth是怎么去参加开幕典礼的。

B. DBCBA

60. D。 根据 …his sons were all made to join the army 这里用了 made 说明his sons 并不是自愿去的,因此应该选 D

61. B。 根据 …his sons were all made to join the army one after another and they all died in the fights 可知应该选 B

62. C。 1 …but the villagers were all poor and couldn’t give him anything 可知答案为 C

63. B。 根据 Then he said “Don’t say so in our village, sir!” the policeman

64. A。 根据文章内容,the old man I don’t know it’s Hitler’s home town,而 the policeman 急忙说 No, no, sir…It’s pigs’ hometown! 因此选A

The police say this is the pig’s hometown,而且他不允许 the old say this is Hitler’s hometown 从中可以感受到他认为 Hitler还不比一只猪强。

C. CDA

A. G. coffee ordinary coffee

66. D。 根据 …H. A. G. — a new kind of coffee — free coffee but without any harmful effects 可知正确答案为 D

67. A。 Heath food stores and most groceries have H. A. G. coffee 可知 A 项说法错误,所以此题答案为 A

D. AAD

69. A。 从第 1 段第 4 句话First a willow tree(柳树) attacked in the woods by caterpillars(毛毛虫) changed the chemistry of its leaves and made them taste so terrible that the caterpillars got tired of the leaves and stopped eating them 可以做出正确选择

70. D。 从第 2 段倒数第 2 句话 …flying in certain patterns that tell other bees where to find nectar(花蜜) for honey 可以知道bees交流的方式。

Recently there has been an argument about the reuse of textbooks on the internet. I am writing to talk about it.

As we all know, the average lifespan of a copy of a textbook is only half a year in our country while in America it is five years or so, which shows we waste too much. There are 220 million students consuming 3 billion textbooks each year, so about 11 million trees are needed to produce them! If the lifespan of textbooks could be extended for one more year, a large number of trees could be saved each year. In addition, many children from poor families can’t afford textbooks. Will it be good if we can afford them to reuse the books?

So I suggest that all of us should encourage students to take care of their textbooks, and not only does it do good to us but also to nature. At the same time, this can also help us develop awareness of thriftiness.

My parents ran a small restaurantThe restaurant was open 24 hours a dayseven days a weekAnd my first job when I was six years old was shining shoes for customersMy duties increased as I grew older. By age ten I was clearing tables and washing platesMy father made it clear that I had to meet certain standardsI had to be on timehard-working and polite to the customers. I was never paid for any work I didOne day I made a mistake of telling Dad I thought he should give me ten pounds a weekHe said“OKThen how about you paying me for the three meals a day when you eat here and for the times you bring in your friends for free drinks He figured I owed him about 40 pounds a weekThis taught me quite a lot
