Opportunity和chance的区别

1. chance 和 opportunity 都能表示“机会、机遇”。chance 常意味着因为运气或偶然而出现的机遇,含有侥幸的意味在内；opportunity 特指机遇； 词典上解释为good chance，说明是良机，“很难得的”机会。

We met some foreigners on the train and that was a good chance to practice our oral English.

我们在火车上遇到了几位老外，那是我们练习英语口语的好机会。

Such opportunities should not be missed. 这样的机会不应该失去。 They have no chance to escape.他们没机会逃跑。

2. chance 还可表示可能性，而opportunity不能。

The chances that the miners will survive are small. 矿工们生还的可能性不大。

Chances are that he was arrived. 他很可能已经到了。

There is little chance that he is always helping us. 他不大可能老是帮我们。

chance 是机率, 或指任何一种可以做某事的机会和可能性

但是 opportunity 是一种好的机会, 可以达成某种目标的机会, 背後暗示了期许和期望，当一个人说 I have a chance to meet with the president.

指的是得到了和总统见面的机会, 能够和总统见面, 这样的事有了可能性

但说 I have an opportunity to meet with the president.

则暗示了此人原本就想和总统见面, 而现在有人给了这样的机会, 让心愿成真，另外, a good chance 指的是很高的机率, 不是 "很好的机会"

比如: There's a good chance he might turn us down. (他很可能拒绝我们) 

但 a good opportunity 才是指良机, 很好的机会

比如: The party will be a good opportunity to make new friends.

表示说话者本来就想交新朋友, 而这个宴会提供了达到这个目的的良机

若讲 The party will be a chance to make new friends.

则只是说这个宴会让人有可能交到新朋友，至於会不会成功或是不是说话者所愿则不得而知。所以请问大家, 当我们要感谢别人给我们某种机会时 ，要用 chance 还是 opportunity 才对?

因为要感谢别人给的机会, 通常都是因为它让我们得以做到我们想做的事

比如感谢一家公司给你面试的机会, 让你能找到工作, 有钱赚, 或能达成自己想要的发展那就应该说 Thank you for this opportunity. 而不是 Thank you for this chance. 了
