Unit 3

Literature

1、 本单元的话题应该是：Literature，经和本册副主编梁清教授确认，是出版社编辑出错，误将本单元的话题编辑成Popular Music。

2、 本单元的主要阅读技能是“建立自己的词库”，“理解议论文”复习内容。

3、 提醒：Reading 1中的用词文学性很好，这和本单元的话题Literature是很吻合的，举例如下：

A. A diving bell is a container shaped like a bell, in which people can breather air while they work under water.

B. The diving bell and butterfly = body and mind（Although his body is heavy and immovable like a diving bell, his mind is free to fly like a butterfly.）

4、 Reading 1中的第一段落基本概括了本文的大意，因此，如果学生能够基本理解第一段落，就可以理解接下来的几个段落。

5、 如果学生能够理解接下来的几个段落，那也可以反向理解第一个段落。

6、 本单元的另外一个特色就是用词，大概分为两类：

A. 可以通过上下文以及构词法理解的词汇：blinking your eye，completely paralysed him from head to toe。

B. 可以猜测大概意思，但是可以忽略准确词义的词汇：stroke（前后出现了两次，学生应该能够猜测出是一种严重的病的意思，但是不必知道具体是什么病。）。

7、 —meant he couldn’t move, talk, taste, swallow, smell or even breath without the help of a machine. All he could do was move his left eyelid.这两句话是理解上面和下面很多内容的解释文字，因此，这是锻炼学生运用已经学习过的“通过解释理解词汇和句子”的很好的案例。

8、 Amazingly, the book is not one of darkness and despair. Instead, of self-pity, he writes with a sense of humor and a love of life.理解了这两句话，对理解作者意图方面的问题就基本解决了。

9、 Reading 2就没什么难度了。
