Unit 3 Electricity

1教学目标

At the end of the lesson, students are expected to

learn about how electricity works everywhere in the cities and in the countryside;
enlarge vocabulary: drive, (operate, power) , produce, work,(entertain), churn, wonder;
talk about the benefits and importance of electricity in people’s daily life;
be aware of the fact that life would be terrible without electricity and learn to understand modern life is fantastic and full of amazement because of electricity;
develop group presentation skills.

2学情分析

授课班级为世外中学双语班,英语能力较八年级其他境内班级学生而言相对薄弱,大多数学生平时能够读懂难度中等及中上的阅读材料,积极参与课堂互动,并在老师的指导下完成课堂对话及小组表演的口头展示。

3重点难点

文章中的名词、形容词活用动词和相关词组: light the streets, warm people, heat food, drive trains, milk the cow, chop their food, churn the butter。并补充同义动词operate, power, produce,entertain等。

通过不同形式的阅读教学策略来帮助学生加深对文本内容及词汇的理解和掌握。
口头操练并复习巩固学生已有的一些关于描述电给生活带来的好处的形容词极其反义词:(un)comfortable, (in)convenient, (in)efficient, (un)enjoyable, (un)interesting等。并把文中所学运用到最后的presentation环节,描述电对我们生活的重要性。

活动1【导入】Prereading

Prepare to answer questions about facts of electricity in pairs.

活动2【讲授】Whilereading

Multimedia Room:

Listen and complete the topic sentence.
Watch a video and describe how people use electricity in different ways.

Reading Room:

Read the text for the first time and find out the two places where electricity works.
Read the text for the second time and find out where electricity actually works in the cities and in the countryside.
Read the text for the third time and make a list of the verbs which show the different ways electricity works.

Game Center:

Finish the word puzzle according to the verbs they’ve learned from the text

Talk about the benefits of electricity by following the sentence pattern:

Electricity_verbs_... As a result, ... Electricity makes our life _adjective_.

Discuss the importance of electricity in pairs by following the given dialogue pattern.

Video Room:

Prepare a group presentation about how electricity works in some other places and its benefits and importance, and talk about what life would be like without electricity

【讲授】教学过程

Step1. Warming-up 

1.Talk about the cartoon picture on P49. 

2.Discuss some things about electricity.

Step2. Pre-Reading Preparation 

1.Let the students discuss in group, then answering the following 

questions. 

What does electricity look like? 

How can we know there is electricity. 

What can we do with electricity? 

Step3 while-reading 

1.look at the title, the picture, the first and the last paragraphs 

and answer the questions of A1: 

what is the girl going to buy? 

What did the boy ask her to do? 

Who or what is the servant in the title? 

2. Check the answer after the first reading , and ask the student 

which lines can find the answers. 

 3.Read the story for the second time and answer the following 

questions: 

Did Benny often try to fool Daisy? 

Can we see electricity?

Did Benny fool Daisy successfully? 

How did Benny explain about electricity? 

4.Read the text for the second time and finish A3 and A4. 

5. Check the answers, then discussing how does electricity make 

the light bulb shine. 

6. Read after the tape and translate the whole passage. 

Step 4. Post-Reading
