2019届高三英语一轮复习专题训练卷之阅读理解(全国通用):科教科普类

1    A Japanese company is developing a pair of smart glasses that can help those with visual or comprehension problems to read written text more easily. Called the Oton Glass, the glasses are meant to translate text into sound using two cameras and an earpiece, both fitted to its frame.

Half of the lens (镜片) is a mirror that reflects the wearer’s eyes back to the first camera, which tracks eye movement. The other camera captures the text. Wearers use the glasses by staring at the text they can’t read and blinking (眨眼) to trigger the glasses. Then the captured words are sent to a cloud system, which processes the text and turns it into sound played through the earpiece. If the system is unable to identify the words, the images are sent to a remote worker who can deal with them.

The Oton Glass lead designer, Keisuke Shimakage, started working on the glasses in 2012 to aid his father, who had developed dyslexia, a condition that makes it difficult for someone to read and spell. While his father eventually recovered, Shimakage continued his development in order to help others with the disorder.

Currently, the Oton Glass is seeking funding. Backers can get a pair of the glasses for 5,000 yen (roughly $47).

Smart glasses aren’t a new concept, but it’s difficult to point to any single pair of smart glasses that people have reviewed favorably. It could, perhaps, be that previous products tried to do too much, or were too expensive. That’s why Intel’s Vaunt smart glasses stripped out some features, like its camera, LCD screen, and speakers. The Oton Glass is for a very specific audience, and its relatively low price could make it more appealing to those who want an affordable way to understand the text around them.

1.What was Keisuke’s original purpose in designing the Oton Glass?
A.To treat his father’s disease.
B.To translate text into sound.
C.To assist his father to read.
D.To make written text easier to read.

2.What is the right order how the Oton Glass works?

a. The camera captures the words.

b. The wearer stares at the text.

c. The wearer hears the sound via the earpiece.

d. The cloud system turns the text into sound.

e. The wearer blinks to get the glasses working.

A.a, b, e, c, d
B.e, b, c, d, a
C.b, d, a, e, c
D.b, e, a, d, c
3.The underlined part “stripped out” in the last paragraph can be replaced by ________.
A.improved
B.removed
C.increased
D.invented
4.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The advantages of the Oton Glass.
B.The characteristics of smart glasses.
C.Consumers’ evaluation of the Oton Glass.
D.The target audiences of various smart glasses.

答案:1.C; 2.D; 3.B; 4.A

解析:1.细节理解题。根据文章第三段The Oton Glass lead designer, Keisuke Shimakage, started working on the glasses in 2012 to aid his father, who had developed dyslexia, a condition that makes it difficult for someone to read and spell.
Wearers use the glasses by staring at the text they can’t read and blinking (眨眼) to trigger the glasses.一句可知第二步是要通过眨眼的形式激活眼镜。故可以得出正确答案为D
3.词义猜测题。最后一段It could, perhaps, be that previous products tried to do too much, or were too expensive.一句提到以前的产品想拥有更多的功能,因此导致价格过高。再根据后句The Oton Glass is for a very specific audience, and its relatively low price…可知The Oton Glass的价格更低,故可以推知一些使价格上涨的功能被取消了,所以“stripped out”是去除的意思。故选B
4.本段的内容是智能眼镜不是新的概念,但它所具备的特点是别的智能眼镜所没有的。

2     It’s a popular belief that a fish’s memory lasts for only seven seconds. It may seem sad to think that they don’t remember what they’ve eaten or where they’ve been, and they don’t recognize you or any of their friends —every moment in their life would be like seeing the world for the first time.

But don’t be so quick to feel sorry for them. A new study has found that fish have a much better memory than we used to think. In fact, certain species of fish can even remember events from as long as 12 days ago.

In the study, researchers from MacEwan University in Canada trained a kind of fish called African cichlids to go to a certain area of their tank to get food. They then waited for 12 days before putting them back in the tank again.

Researchers used computer software to monitor the fish’s movements. They found that after such a long break the fish still went to the same place where they first got food. This suggested that they could remember their past experiences.

In fact, scientists had been thinking for a long time that African cichlids might have a good memory. An earlier study showed that they behaved aggressively(挑衅地) in front of certain fish, perhaps because they remembered their past “fights”. But until the latest findings, there was no clear evidence.

Just as a good memory can make our lives easier, it also plays an important part when a fish is trying to survive in the wild.

“If fish are able to remember that a certain area contains safe food, they will be able to go back to that area without putting their lives at risks,” lead researcher Trevor Hamilton told Live Science.

For a long time, fish were placed far below chimpanzees, dolphins and mice on the list of smart animals. But this study has given scientists a new understanding of their intelligence.

1.What is the article mainly about?

A.Fish having very bad memories.
B.Fish being smarter than we thought.
C.How fish improve their memory.
D.What we can learn from fish.

2.According to the article, people used to believe that _____.

A.fish could only remember part of their past experiences
B.fish could remember things that happened 12 days ago
C.a fish’s memory lasted for only seven minutes
D.fish didn’t recognize any of their friends

3.How can fish benefit most from a good memory? They can remember _____.

A.where to get food and survive
B.their enemies and fight
C.where to escape to when in danger
D.their friends and help each other

4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.Fish behave aggressively in a fight.
B.Fish can remember more.
C.Fish don’t belong to the list of smart animals.
D.Only African cichlids have a good memory.

3    Thousands of years ago, people didn’t know that the Earth moved. They thought the sun really did move across the sky. The Greek god Helios was said to drive the sun around the sky with his chariot (战车). But now, these ideas have all changed. Nowadays, it is the sun that drives our “chariot” around the sky.

So what does all this mean? Well, quite simply, there is now a plane (or “chariot”) that is powered by the sun. It has special parts in its wings. These parts absorb power from the sun. They absorb so much power that they can carry on flying at night. In the Greek myths (希腊神话), Helios had to take a break at night. It seems we’re finally even more efficient than the gods themselves.

This plane is called Solar Impulse (“太阳驱动). It will fly across the US in May. This is very important for the future of the world.

So why is solar energy so good for us? Well, other kinds of energy cause a few problems. If you live in China, you’ve probably noticed the pollution. This is caused by burning coal or gas to make energy. The heat and chemicals (化学制品) from this make things work. But if we use the heat from the sun, we don’t have to burn anything, and there’s no pollution.

Solar energy is not all there yet. It needs to be improved. But the best thing about it is that, unlike coal and gas, it doesn’t run out.Solar Impulse could keep flying forever. Well, actually, the sun will run out too, one day, but not for another 5 billion years. That’s a pretty long flight.

1.What does “chariot” really refer to in the last sentence of Paragraph 1?
A.The Earth. B.The Greek god.
C.Solar Impulse. D.Birds.
2.In the passage, what is mentioned as the cause of pollution in China?
A.Overpopulation.
B.Burning coal or gas.
C.Using solar energy.
D.Heavy traffic.
3.What does the writer mean by “That’s a pretty long flight”?
A.It takes a lot of time to get Solar Impulse going.
B.Solar Impulse moves very slowly.
C.Solar Impulse will be in use for a long time.
D.Solar Impulse has a long way to go to take the place of the sun.
4.The passage is most probably taken from___________.
A.a Greek myth
B.a science fiction
C.a story-book
D.a science magazine

4    Does this situation seem familiar to you? Your English is progressing well, the grammar is now familiar, the reading comprehension is no problem, you are communicating quite fluently, but: Listening is STILL a problem! First of all, remember that you are not alone. Listening comprehension is probably the most difficult job for almost all learners of English as a foreign language. The most important thing is to listen as often as possible. The first step is to find listening resources. The Internet is really a useful tool for English students. You can download The  RealPlayer from RealMedia. The RealPlayer allows you to use the Internet like a radio station.

Once you have begun to listen on a regular basis, you might still be frustrated (懊恼) by limited understanding. What should you do?

Here is some of the advice I give my students:

●Accept the fact that you are not going to understand everything.

●Stay relaxed when you do not understand—even if you continue not to understand for a long time.

●Do not translate what you hear into your native language.

●Listen for the general idea of the conversation. Don’t concentrate on detail until you have understood the main ideas.

I remember the problems I had in understanding spoken German when I first went to Germany. In the beginning, when I didn't understand a word, I insisted on translating it in my mind. This method usually resulted in confusion. Then, after the first six months, I discovered two very important facts. Firstly, translating creates a wall between the listener and the speaker. Secondly, most people repeat themselves constantly.    By remaining calm, I noticed that — even if I didn’t pay much attention, I could usually understand what the speaker had said.

1.The best way to improve our listening is to _________ .
A.practise as much as possible
B.use the Internet like a radio station
C.find as many listening resources as possible
D.speak naturally and read as much as possible
2.Which of the following is a good habit when listening?
A.Try to understand everything.
B.Try to get the main ideas.
C.Pay much attention to details.
D.Translate each word in your mind.
3.Why did the writer mention his/her experience in Germany?
A.To prove the importance of translating.
B.To tell us the importance of staying calm.
C.To point out an ineffective method of listening.
D.To show the problems of speaking a foreign language.

5     Some people seem to have extraordinary memories. Zheng Aiqiang, a “memory athlete” on TV show Super Brain, can remember 2,660 numbers in just one hour!

You would think people like this have special brains. But according to a recent study by researchers from the US and the Netherlands, the brain structures of ordinary people and 23 of the world’s leading memory athletes show no difference.

That’s because good memories can be trained. New research in the journal Neuron(神经元期刊) suggests that you can become a super memorizer with just six weeks of hard training.

Researchers found that technique(技巧) called loci, invented by ancient Greeks, can greatly help improve memory. By using loci, you are using your imagination to improve the brain’s memory networks. You can link(关联) something you need to remember with a place that you know very well. For example, to remember a list of numbers, imagine yourself walking through your house. Each thing is linked to a number. For example, zero could be handle(把手) on the door and five could be the painting on the wall.

In one study, some ordinary people were given 20 minutes to remember 72 words. First they could only remember 26 of them. But when they were taught loci, they could remember 62 words.

“Not everyone can become a memory champion. But everyone using the technique can improve a lot from the level they’re at,” said Boris Konrad, one of the researchers in the study.

1.According to the study, ________.

a. memory athletes have special brains

b. ordinary people and memory athletes have similar brain structures

c. hard training can make a person a super memorizer

d. the ancient Greeks had the most powerful memory at that time

A.ab B.cd
C.bc D.ac
2.When using loci to remember something, you link the thing with a _______.
A.number
B.place
C.name
D.painting
3.Which of the following about the study is NOT true?  ________.
A.People were given 20 minutes to remember the 72 words.
B.They could remember 26 words in their own way.
C.They could remember all the words by using loci.
D.Loci helped them remember 36 more words.

6    Grey clouds move as low as smoke over the treetops at Lolo Pass. The ground is white. The day is June 10.It has been snowing for the past four days in the Bitterroot Mountains.Wayne Fairchild is getting worried about our trek over the Lolo Trail-95 miles from Lolo Montana to Weippe in Idaho, across the roughest country in the West. Lewis and Clark were nearly defeated 200 years ago by snowstorms on the Lolo.Today Fairchild is nervously checking the weather reports. He has agreed to take me across the toughest, middle section of the trail.

When Lewis climbed on top of Lemhi Pass,140 miles south of Missoula,on Aug.12,1805,he was astonished by what was in front of him;“high mountain chains still to the West of us with their tops partially covered with snow.”Nobody in what was then the US knew the Rocky Mountains existed, with peaks twice as high as anything in the Appalachians back East.

Today their pathway through those mountains holds more attraction than any other ground over which they traveled, for its raw wilderness is an evidence to the character of two cultures:the explorers who braved its hardships and the Native Americans who prize and conserve the path as a sacred (神圣的)gift. It remains today the same condition as when Lewis and Clark walked it.

The Lolo is passable only from July to mid-September.Our luck is holding with the weather, although the snow keeps getting deeper. As we climb to Indian Post Office, the highest point on the trail at 7,033 ft,we have covered 13 miles in soft snow, and we hardly have enough energy to make dinner. After a meal of chicken,I sit on a rock on top of the ridge (山脊).There is no light visible in any direction, not even another campfire. For four days we do not see another human being. We are occupied with the things that mix fear with joy.In our imagination we have finally caught up with Lewis and Clark.

1.We learn from the text that before 1805 ________.

A.The Rocky Mountains were wholly covered with snow
B.there were no people living in the western part of America
C.no Americans knew of the existence of the Rocky Mountains
D.the Appalachians were the western frontier of the United States

2.We learn from the text that the Lolo Pass ________.

A.has changed a lot since 1805
B.is the meeting point of three cultures
C.remains much the same as it was 200 years ago
D.now attracts a large number of tourists to visit

3.Judging from the text,Lewis and Clark were most probably ________.

A.two native Indians
B.explorers of the early 19th century
C.merchants who did business with the Indians
D.travelers whose curiosity took them over the Lolo Pass

4.We can infer from the text that when crossing the Lolo Pass the author _________.

A.was attempting the impossible
B.was trying to set a world record
C.was following the trail of Lewis and Clark
D.was fighting with weather and taking unnecessary risks

答案:1.C; 2.C; 3.B; 4.C

7    There is a common belief among parents that schools are no longer interested in spelling. No school I have taught in has ever considered spelling unimportant as a basic skill. There are, however, quite different ideas about how to teach it, or how much priority(优先) it must be given over general language development and writing ability. The problem is, how to encourage a child to express himself freely in writing without holding him back with spelling.

If spelling becomes the only point of his teacher’s interest, clearly a bright child will be likely to “play safe”. He will write only words within his spelling range(范围). That’s why teachers often encourage the early use of dictionaries and pay attention to content rather than technical ability.

I was once shocked to read on the bottom of a sensitive piece of writing about a personal experience: “This work is terrible! There are far too many spelling mistakes.” It may have been a sharp criticism(批评) of the pupils technical abilities in writing, but it was also a sad thing for the teacher who had omitted to read the composition, which contained some beautiful expressions of the child’s deep feelings. The teacher was not wrong to draw attention to the mistakes, but if his priority had centered on the child’s ideas, an expression of his disappointment with the presentation would have given the pupil more hope to seek improvement.

1.The expression “play safe” probably means _______.
A.to write carefully
B.to do as teachers say
C.to use dictionaries frequently
D.to avoid using words one is not sure of
2.Teachers encourage the use of dictionaries so that ________.
A.students will be able to express their ideas more freely
B.teachers will have less trouble in correcting mistakes
C.students will have more trust in writing
D.students will learn to spell words correctly
3.The writer seems to think that the teacher’s judgment on that sensitive piece of writing is _______.
A.reasonable
B.unfair
C.foolish
D.careless
4.The major point discussed in the passage is _______.
A.the importance of developing writing skills
B.the importance of spelling
C.the correct way of marking composition
D.the relationship between spelling and the content of a composition

8    William Curry is a serious climate scientist, not an art critic. But he has spent a lot of time on Emanuel Leutze’s famous painting “George Washington Crossing the Delaware,” which describes a boatload of colonial American soldiers making their way to attack English the day after Christmas in 1776. “Most people think these other guys in the boat are rowing, but they are actually pushing the ice away,” says Curry, tapping his finger on the painting. Sure enough, the lead sailor is breaking the frozen river with his boot. “I grew up in the Philadelphia. The place in this painting is 30 minutes away by car. I can tell you, this kind of thing just doesn’t happen anymore.”

But it may again soon. And ice-choked scenes may also return to Europe. The 16th-century painter Pieter’s works, including the 1565 masterpiece “Hunters in the Snow,” make the now-temperate European landscapes look more like Lapland. Such frigid settings were commonplace during a period dating roughly from 1300 to 1850 because much of North America and Europe was in the pain of a little ice age. And now there is increasing evidence that the cold could return. A growing number of scientists believe conditions are right for another lasted cooldown, or small ice age. While no one is predicting an ice sheet like the one that covered the Northern Hemisphere with glaciers about 12,000 years ago, the next cooling trend could drop average temperatures 5 degrees over much of the United States and 10 degrees in the Northeast, northern Europe, and northern Asia.

Political changes since the last ice age could make survival far more difficult for the world’s poor. During previous cooling periods, these people simply picked up and moved south, but that doesn’t work in the modem world, of closed borders. “To the extent the climate change may cause rapid and extensive changes of fortune for those who live off the land, the inability to migrate may remove one of the major safety homelands for pitiful people,” says the report.

1.The writer uses paintings in the first paragraph to say        .

A.impossible future climate change.
B.climate change of the last two centuries.
C.the river doesn't freeze in winter anymore.
D.how George Washington led his troops across the river.

2.Which of the following do scientists believe to be possible?

A.The temperature may drop over much of the Northern Hemisphere.
B.It will be colder than 12,000 years ago.
C.The entire Northern Hemisphere will be covered in ice.
D.Europe will look more like Lapland.

3.Why is it difficult for the poor to survive the next age?

A.People don't live in tribes anymore.
B.Politics are changing too fast today.
C.Climate change causes people live off the land.
D.Migration has become impossible because of closed borders.

4.What is the best title of the passage?

A.A New Ice Age.
B.The Effect of Ice Age.
C.Prediction about the Ice Age.
D.Political and Climate Change.

9    One of the biggest problems when we are talking is the awkward silence. Encountering this situation is so uncomfortable that you would avoid meeting new people in the first place. In the past, I struggled with this and I even thought it had to do with my DNA or something… But later I learned that once you know how to keep those words flowing, you can meet and talk to anyone you like, which helps create great possibilities for friendship, fun and shared activities that you would otherwise have missed out on.

After studying this in depth, I had different opinions and found that one of these common behaviors is the habit of filtering (过滤)--holding back from saying something  until you’ve “checked” to make sure that what you’re about to say is cool, impressive and interesting. Another problem is not learning to get in the mood for conversation. If you don’t know how to change from subjects, then it can take a lot of time to warm up.

It is the reflex (习惯性思维) that allows you to say whatever goes on in your mind. It’s fun to realize that you’re allowed to say whatever is on your mind. As long as you don’t say anything that could land you in jail (监狱).

All of the “Oh! That’s interesting…” “Hmm, I’ve never heard of that” “Hmm, cool!” expressions are reactionary (保守的) bits of conversation that prove to the other person that you’re really listening. This works 99% of the time. So, if you show some interest, they’ll hang around and want to talk to you even more.

Everyone knows that stories juice-up conversations, but most people only talk about stories of their own lives. When someone mentions something related to any of them, just tell the story, even if it’s not from your life. The more interesting, stranger or more frightening they are, the harder they are to forget.

1.If people can deal with the awkward silence, they can_____.
A.train their working skill
B.improve their life quality
C.enrich their social life
D.establish their working relationship
2.When talking with others, we should_____.
A.feel nervous
B.think twice
C.be free to express
D.avoid breaking in
3.According to the passage, what do the speakers care much about?
A.The attractive topics of conversation.
B.The atmosphere of the conversation.
C.The listener’s experiences and tastes.
D.The listener’s curiosity and concern.
4.What does the underlined part “juice-up conversations” mean?
A.making conversations more boring
B.making conversations livelier
C.making conversations smoother
D.making conversations more relaxing

10    Plants are helpful to human: they provide us with wood and other products, they give us shade, and they help to prevent drought(干旱) and floods.

Sadly, in many parts of the world man has not realized that the third of these services is the most important. In his eagerness to draw quick profit from the trees, he has cut them down in large numbers, only to find that without them he has lost the best friends he had.

Several thousand years ago a rich and powerful country cut down its trees to build warships(战舰), with which to gain itself an empire(帝国). It gained the empire but, without its trees, its soil became hard and poor. When the empire fell to pieces, the country found itself faced by floods and starvation.

Even if a government realizes the importance of a plentiful supply of trees, it is difficult for it to persuade the villager to see this. The villager wants wood to cook his food with, and he can earn money by making charcoal(木炭) or selling wood to the townsman. He is usually too lazy or too careless to plant and look after trees. So unless the government has a good system of control, or can educate the people, the forests will slowly disappear.

This does not only mean that the villagers? sons and grandsons have fewer trees. The results are even more serious. For where there are trees their roots break the soil up—allowing the rain to sink in and also hold the soil, thus preventing it being washed away easily, but where there are no trees, the soil becomes hard and poor. The rain falls on hard ground and flows away on the surface, causing floods and carrying away with it the rich topsoil, in which crops grow so well. When all the topsoil is gone, nothing remains but a worthless desert.

1.What is the most important function of trees?
A.Providing fuel.
B.Offering shade.
C.Preventing natural disasters.
D.Providing wood.
2.What eventually happened to the empire in paragraph 3?
A.Its people died of hunger.
B.It fell to pieces.
C.It became a giant empire.
D.It built many ships with wood.
3.It is implied in the passage that the villagers           .
A.want a plentiful supply of trees
B.want firewood badly
C.just want to get money
D.don’t realize the importance of trees
4.What is the passage mainly concerned with?
A.The benefits of trees.
B.Trees and soil protection.
C.The various uses of trees.
D.Different attitudes toward trees.

11    Growing mushrooms (蘑菇) is probably the easiest thing you can do even if you are new to mushroom growing. It is becoming more common because restaurants are starting to create more dishes that include mushrooms.

Mushroom growing is easy. To start, you need to have a space where you are going to grow these mushrooms. It does not have to be a huge space but just enough for you to grow as many mushrooms as you need. When you have found the space perfect for you, you can start researching what kind of mushrooms you want to grow. There are a lot of mushrooms to choose from and not all of them are suitable to eat.

Sometimes you may want to hire some workers to help if you have a large mushroom farm, or if you are trying to start a professional mushroom growing business. Trying to have a business by yourself can be stressful. If you don’t have enough time to spend taking care of everything yourself, some helpers may be the best choice.

After you have started the mushroom growing, you should regularly check that your mushrooms grow properly and that they are not being attacked by any pesticides (农药) or any other animals or something that could be dangerous to them. That is the worst part of mushroom developing. Protect your mushroom farm well with a fence (围栏) or a gate so that only you and your workers can get in and out.

12  Show your child that you care about him and that you are dependable.

Children who feel loved are more likely to be confident. Your child must believe that, no matter what, someone will look out for him. Give your baby or toddler plenty of attention, encouragement, hugs and lap time.

    Set a good example.

Children imitate what they see others do and what they hear others say. When you exercise and eat nourishing(有营养的) food, your child is more likely to do so as well. When you treat others with respect, your child probably will, too.

If you share things with others, your child also will learn to be thoughtful of others’ feelings.

Provide opportunities for repetition. It takes practice for a child to crawl, pronounce new words or drink from a cup.

Your child doesn’t get bored when she repeats things. Instead, by repeating things until she learns them, your child builds the confidence she needs to try new things.

Use appropriate discipline. All children need to have limits set for them. Children whose parents give them firm but loving discipline generally develop better social skills and do better in school than children whose parents set too few or too many limits. Here are some ideas.

Direct your child’s activities, but don’t be too bossy.

Give reasons when you ask your child to do something. Say, for example, “Please move your truck from the stairs so no one falls over it ”—not, “Move it because I said so.”

Listen to your children to find out how he feels and whether he needs special support.

Show love and respect when you are angry with your child. Criticize your child’s behavior but not the child.

Be positive and encouraging. Praise your child for a job well done. Smiles and encouragement go much further to shape good behavior than harsh(严厉的) punishment.

1.Why should parents set a good example for their children?
A.Because children love their parents.
B.Because children like learning from their parents.
C.Because children like observing their parents’ behaviour.
D.Because children like staying with their parents.
