For almost two months Dominic York, a 23-year-old hairdresser, wandered about hospitals all night, wearing a white coat and pretending he was a doctor. Yesterday he proudly claimed in court that despite his complete lack of medical experience or qualifications, he had saved several people’s lives. He had even been allowed to assist a surgeon during an emergency operation on a patient who was about to die on something she had swallowed.
“I watched one of those TV dramas about a hospital and suddenly I felt like playing one of the roles myself. So I put on a white jacket and a stethoscope(听诊器)and walked around one of the biggest hospital in London. At first I just watched. Once you learn how doctors talk to patients, nurses and others doctors, it’s easy to take people in,” he said.
One of the patients he treated was Laura Kennan. She had been knocked down by a car and fainted. When she came to in hospital, York was standing over her.
“He looked very professional. He told me his name was Doctor Simon. Then he gave me some sort of injection(注射),” she said. And then he suddenly cleared off when a nurse asked who he was. She didn’t think there was anything wrong. “I would never have realized he was a fake if a policewoman hadn’t showed me his photograph a week later. When the policewoman told me who he really was, I could hardly believe my ears.”
Judge Raymond Adams told York that he was. “ shocked and horrified” that he got away with his deceiving for so long, and then sentenced him to eighteen months in a special prison for criminal with mental disorders.
“I can only hope that this will not lead to further problems. After all, you will have considerable opportunity to study the behavior of the psychiatrists(精神科医生)who will look after you while you are there. If you try to persuade people that you yourself are a psychiatrist after you are set free, I shall make sure that you are given a much longer sentence.” Judge Adams warned York.

Play is the basic business of childhood, and in recent years research has shown the great importance of play in the development of a human being. Form earliest infancy(婴儿), every child needs opportunity and the right material for play, and the man tools of play are toys. The main function of toys is to suggest, encourage and play. To succeed in this they must be good toys, which children will play with often, and will come back to again and again. Therefore it is important to choose suitable toys for different stages of a child's development.
In recent years research on infant development has shown the standard a child is likely to reach, within the range of his inherited(遗传的) abilities, is largely determined in the first three years of his life. So a baby's ability to benefit from the right play materials should not be underestimated(低估). A baby who is encouraged and stimulated, talked to, and shown things and played with, has the best chance of growing up successfully.
The next stage, from three to five years old, is the heyday for toys, and at this stage curiosity knows no bounds. Every type of suitable toy should be made available to the child; for trying out, experimenting and learning for discovering his own particular ability: Bricks and jigsaws(七巧板) and construction toys; painting scribbling(涂鸦)and making things; sand and water play; toys for imaginative and pretending play—the first social games for learning to play and get on with others.
But the third stage of play development — from five to seven or eight years — the child is at school. But for a few more years play is still the best way of learning, at home or at school. It is easier to see which type of toys the child most enjoys.
Until the age of seven or eight, play and work mean much the same thing to a child. But once reading has been mastered, then books and school become the main source of learning. Toys are still interesting and valuable, but their significance has changed to a child of nine or ten years old, toys and games mean, as to adults, relaxation and fun.
60.According to the first paragraph we know that as a child grows up .
A.he should be allowed to choose his own toys.

D.he should be given fewer and fewer toys

C.partly determine the standard he is likely to reach
D.to a large extent determine the choice of toys
62.We learn from the passage that a child has boundless(无限的)curiosity .

A.the importance of pre-school education B.the importance of schooling
C.the role of play in a child’s development D.the choice of toys for youngster

A “blogger” is a person who writes on an Internet website called a “blog”. The word “blog” is a
short way of saying “web log”, or “personal website”. Anyone can start a blog, and they can write
about anything they like.
There are millions of blogs on the Internet today. They provide news, information and ideas to
the people who read them. They contain links to other websites. And they provide a place for people to write ideas and react to the ideas of others.
A research company called Perseus has studied more than 3,000 Web logs. It says that blogs
are most popular with teenage girls. They use them to let their friends know what is happening in their lives. The study also says that more than 100,000 bloggers stopped taking part in the activity after a year.
However, some people develop serious blogs to present political and other ideas. For example,
the Republican and Democratic parties in the southern state of Kentucky, US, recently started their
own blogs. And American companies are beginning to use blogs to advertise their products.
At the same time, some long-standing blogs have ended. Last week, blogging leader Dave
Winer closed his free blog service, weblogs.com. He says the site became too costly to continue. He started the blog four years ago, and thousands of people had written on it. They are now upset
because they did not know that the site was closed.
One blog that is still going strong is called Rebecca's Pocket. Rebecca Blood created the website in 1999. She wrote about the history of blogs on the site. That article led to a book called "The Weblog Handbook". It has been translated into four languages so far
Ms Blood says Rebecca's Pocket gets about 30,000 visitors a month. She writes about anything and everything - politics, culture and movies. She recently provided medical advice. And she wrote about how to prevent people from stealing money from online bank accounts
64.The text is mainly written to _____.

Is there a “success personality”? Some winning combination of qualities that leads almost
naturally to achievement? If so, exactly what is that secret success formula, and can anyone develop it ?
At the Gallup Organization we recently focused in depth on success, examining the attitudes of 1500 prominent people selected casually from who's who in America. Our research finds out a number of qualities that occur regularly among top achievers. Here is one of the most important, that is common sense.
Common sense is the most prevailing quality possessed by our respondents. Seventy-nine percent award themselves a top score in this quality. And 61 percent say that common sense was very important in contributing to their success.
To most, common sense means the ability to present sound, practical judgments on everyday affairs. To do this, one has to sweep aside extra ideas and get right to the core of what matters. A Texas oil and gas businessman puts it this way: " The key ability for success is simplifying. In conduction of meeting and dealing with industry reducing a complex problem to the simplest term is highly important."
Is common sense a quality a person is born with, or can you do something to increase it? The oil man's answer is that common sense can definitely be developed. He attributes his to learning how to debate in school. Another way to increase your store of common sense is to observe it in others, learning from their—and your own—mistakes.
Besides common sense, there are many other factors that influence success: knowing your field, self-reliance, intelligence, the ability to get things done, leadership, creativity, relationships with others, and of course, luck. But common sense stands out. If you develop these qualities, you'll succeed. And you might even find yourself listed in who's who someday.
71.The underlined word “casually” in the second paragraph means .
A.on purpose B.by chance C.formally D.intentionally
72.It can be learned that common sense .
A.is something that common people like best
B.is a popular quality a person is born with
C.is something that enables one to form correct opinions
D.is a quality that is possessed by common people
73.According to the passage, when trying to solve a problem, we had better .
A.get experience through practice B.pay attention to the most important part of it
C.keep on learning as much as possible D.rely on ourselves as well as luck
74.The passage is mainly concerned with _____.
A.organizational ability and good working habits
B.the way to gain big profits and achieve fame and success
C.knowledge and interest which are basic to success
D.what successful people have in common
75.According to the oil businessman, how can a person develop his/her common sense?
A.By becoming a businessman.
B.By learning how to debate and learning from mistakes.
C.By becoming famous.
D.By simplifying things.

One Possible Version
Hi, everyone,
It’s nice to see all of you here, I have been studying in this school since this September, and I have taken part in quite a few very popular and unforgettable after—class activities.
The school often holds the English Corner, in which the students can practise their spoken English. I have learned a lot more about China by talking with the Chinese students. We had a New Year Party with wonderful performance of singing and dancing. In March, the school organized a tree-planting activity in the countryside. Recently many students have taken an active part in the English Speech Corner. All these activities have a good have effect on the training of the students abilities, so they are warmly welcomed.
Thank you.
