Social Workers

Social workers help people overcome problems and make their lives better. If people are homeless, sick, or having family problems, social workers will work with them. If students have trouble in school, social workers help them too.

Social workers help these people in different ways. One way is to find resources for people. They find out what kinds of help people need. Then, they set up programs to meet the needs of the individual12. They may focus on child abuse, poverty, violence, and other problems. For someone with family difficulties, social workers may find a parenting class or a support group. For a homeless person, they may find a place for them to live and a career training program. For a student, they may find a mentor or a learning disability expert.

Many social workers give counseling. They talk to people about their lives and help them understand and solve their problems and to make plans.

Most social workers spend the day in an office. Some travel to the people they help. Sometimes, they meet with people in the evening or on weekends. Social workers can be very busy when they are helping many people at once.

Bai Mei: Pleasure.

反馈

C 2. E 3. D 4. B 5. A

解析:

How are you? How is everything?

4. Thats very interesting.”

Extended family

In an extended family, all the people share one household. Apart from parents and children, there may be other family members: grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. That is to say, a large family may have more than two generations, and often there are more than two adults from different generations of a family.

The family members live together for many reasons. They may help to bring up children or to take care of an ill relative. They may also help with saving money. Sometimes children are brought up by their grandparents, for their parents have died or can never take care of them. Many grandparents look after the children, particularly when both parents are busy working. This large family is called extended family. It can be found all over the world. The number of these families has increased by 40 percent in the past ten years. Most of such families live happily together.

1. In an extended family, people live in different houses.

2. An extend family includes at least three generations.

3.In an extended family, children are looked after by their grandparents because their parents are traveling around.

4. Extended families can be found all over the world.

5. Children can live happily with their parents and grandparents.

第二句话提到“all the people share one household”(所有成员都住在一栋房子里)。

Ten workers in China pushed their boss's car three miles home after an office party because they were all too drunk to drive. The group was enjoying a meal at a restaurant in downtown Changchun, Jilin Province (northeast China). When the party was over, Boss Zhang Fei found that he was too drunk to drive. Then suddenly they realized nobody had stayed sober enough to drive his car.

Drink-driving was listed as a dangerous offence in China in 2014, esp. when the driver is drunk. Those who break the law will have their driving license revoked, face a heavy fine and may be put in jail. Zhang did not want to leave his car downtown and it was too late to call out another driver to drive the car for him. Someone then suggested they push the car home, and said that the exercise would do them all good. Thus, all ten quickly agreed and set off with Zhang at the wheel. All ten workers pushed their boss's car home through the city streets, laughing and singing during the 45-minute journey. Passers-by were shocked to see the group.

Traffic officers said that as long as the cars engine was not running, it would not be classed as drink-driving under the law. However, it is still very dangerous for so many people to push the car along the road, as it may cause traffic accidents.

Passage 1

In the past, American families tended to be quite large. Parents raising five or more children were common. Over the years, the size of the family is becoming smaller. One reason for this is an increase in the cost of living.

Generally, children attend schools for more years than they used to, making them financially dependent on their families longer. Moreover, children nowadays are better dressed and have more money to spend on entertainment. The parents are usually responsible for all the expenses.  And families are less close than they used to be. More and more American mothers work away from home. The break-up of the family appears when the parents divorce. A lot of children in the U. S. live part of their young lives with only one parent. Children grow up feeling unsettled as they are moved between their parents. Single parents often marry other single parents. In this type of family, unrelated children are forced to develop brother or sister relationship.

The situations of many American families today are not good. However, recent signs indicate that things are getting better. The divorce rate is declining(降低). Perhaps Americans have learned how important families are.

All ten workers pushed their boss's car home through the city streets, laughing and singing during the 45-minute journey. Passers-by were shocked to see the group.

I used to think education was the most important thing in my life. Recently my attitude has begun to change, although I still hold that it is essential for everyone in the world today. As a top junior student in my college, I was asked to make a speech on how to learn English well. Standing in front of the audience and facing so many freshmen, I was trembling. I didn't remember any word that I had prepared. I ran out of the conference room without finishing my speech, leaving everyone puzzled. I cried that night in my room, feeling that I was a loser. Studying takes up so much of my time that I feel unable to really develop myself. I am just storing knowledge, yet I fail to communicate with others. I have received many awards in school, but they don't necessarily reflect anything about me. I don't know how to socialize. When I leave school I fear I will be of no use to society.

I realize that everyone has his own way of living. I want to change my lifestyle. Of course I will keep studying. Yet I plan to look for a part-time job, which might turn out to be a good chance to get to know society. I still believe that working my hardest makes me happy. I will still stay on in college.
