SUMMARY

On November 10, 2011 Dragon Events asked our company to give recommendation to 、

them, because they want our company to provide travel and accommodation for the conference

speakers. The task must be completed by.

Our company decided to search the information about travel through the Internet. We

searched many travel agency’s websites and Airlines’ official websites. Comparing the three

options of flights, which are cost, duration and layover time.

Finally, our company recommends these flights, which are Los Angeles- Shanghai

Changchun, New York- Beijing- Changchun, London- Beijing- Changchun, Beijing- Changchun,

Hong Kong- Changchun for the speakers who are from Los Angeles, New York, London,

Beijing and Hong Kong. These flights are the best choice. It will save much money because the

cost is moderation. It will save much time because duration is the shortest. Passengers have time

to collect suitcase because layover time is enough. In a word, these flights are the most suitable

choice for Dragon Events.

A Comparative Analysis of Travel

INTRODUCTION

Fabulous Travel is a creative travel agency. We provide high-quality service to customers,

such as business travel, groups travel, individual travel and self drivingtour. Our company also

provides service of hotel booking, order air tickets and train tickets, agent passport and visa. The

corporation has been found for 10 years since 2001. We have two branches which are located in

Beijing and Dalian. There are one CEO, one COO, one president and two managers in our

company. We have 300 employees in our firm to date. Our aim is to make every tourist’s journey

rich and colorful. Our slogan is “Colorful world is under your feet.”

We have received a letter on November 10, 2011 sent by Ruth E Mudge from Dragon

Events. They have a TED conference in Changchun during spring 2012. They want our company

to provide the travel and accommodation for the conference speakers. They would like us to

propose ground and flight travel plans and hotel accommodations for ten speakers coming from

outside the Changchun area. Our company did a research for speakers from outside.

To be well prepared for this task, 5 departments about 30 employees of our company

researched and collected information and data from Internet. We investigate some good ways to

travel for the ten speakers.

FINDINGS

To satisfy the requirements of Dragon Events, our company did a research about five

places which are Los Angeles, New York, London, Beijing and Hong Kong. Because the ten

speakers from the five areas, the information we are offer good ways to the Dragon Events.

Los Angeles to Changchun

We research flights of Los Angeles to Changchun from Internet. There are 63 flights per

week. We select three optional travel airlines. Option one is depart from Los Angeles on China

Air to Beijing and take train to Changchun. Option two is depart from Los Angeles on United

Airlines to Shanghai and transfer to China Air flight to Changchun. Option three is depart from

Los Angeles on United Airlines to Beijing and transfer to China Air flight to Changchun after

clear custom. The three comfortable hotels prepared for the ten speakers when they arrive at

Changchun.

We research flights of New York to Changchun from Internet. There are 54 flights per

week. We select three optional travel airlines. Option one is depart from New York on United

Airlines to Beijing and take train to Changchun. Option two is depart from New York on

Air China to Beijing and transfer to Air China flight to Changchun. Option three is depart from

New York on United Airlines to Shanghai and transfer to Air China flight to Changchun after

clear custom. Our company offer coach to customers and carry them to hotels.

We research flights of London to Changchun from Internet. There are 210 flights per week. We select three optional travel airlines. Option one is depart from London on Emirates Airlines to Beijing and take train to Changchun. Option two is depart from London on Air France to Beijing and transfer to Air China flight to Changchun. Option three is depart from London on KLM. Emirates Airlines to Beijing and transfer to Air China flight to Changchun. We prepared three comfortable hotels for the ten speakers when they arrive at Changchun.

Beijing to Changchun

Our company researched the available flights from Beijing to Changchun on the Internet.

There are 161 direct flights per week and 23 per day. We select three optional travel airlines.

Option one is depart from Beijing on Air China to Changchun. Option two is depart from Beijing

on China Southern Airlines to Changchun. Option three is depart from Beijing on Hainan

Airlines to Changchun. Our company prepares three hotels for the speakers so they will have a

good trip.

On the Internet, we research flights of Hong Kong to Changchun. There are 119 flights per

week. We select three optional travel airlines. Option one is depart from Hong Kong on Air

China to Changchun. Option two is depart from Hong Kong on China Southern Airlines to

Changchun. Option three is depart from Hong Kong on China Eastern Airlines to Changchun.

After the ten speakers arrived, we provided three comfortable hotels for them.

DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS

According to our research, we divide the result to three criteria, which are cost, duration

and layover time. The criteria show more information about flights. The first criterion is cost,

which shows the expenses you will pay for. The second criterion is duration, which shows the

time you will spend between origin and destination. The third one is layover time, which shows

how long you will wait for transfer. The three criteria will indicate specific information.

Cost

Cost measure how much expense the trip will be. According to requirements, it shouldn’t be

too much because the fund is limited. The best choice is the least expense to save money.

The cost of each route is shown below in Table 1

1. Los Angeles- Option 1 is the cheapest one. Option 2 is medium expense. Option 3 is the most expensive one.

2. London- Option 1 cost least money. Option 2 cost medium money. Option 3 cost money at most.

3. New York- The cost of option 1 is cheapest. Option 2 cost medium money. Option 3 is the most expensive one.

4. Beijing- Option 1 is the cheapest one. Option 2 is medium expense. Option 3 is the most expensive one.

5. Hong Kong- Option 1 cost least money. Option 2 cost medium money. Option 3 cost money at most.

Cost indicates the expense you will pay for. Comparing three options of cost for each place, all

the option 1of each place is the cheapest one. Option 2 is medium expense and option 3 is the

most expensive one for every place. So option 1 is the best solution to all the customers.

Duration

Duration measure how much time the trip will be. According to requirements, it shouldn’t be too

long because the passages will be tired. The best choice is the save time.

The duration of each route is shown below in Table 2, all duration are shown in hours.

1. Los Angeles- The duration is option 1 is the longest time. Option 2 is the shortest one. Option 3 is medium.

2. London- Option 1 has the medium duration. Option 2 is the shortest duration. Option 3 is the longest duration.

3. New York- Option 1 is the longest duration. Option 2 is the shortest one. Option 3 is medium one.

4. Beijing- Option one has the longest duration. Option 2 is the shortest one. Option 3 is the longest duration.

5. Hong Kong- Option 1 is the shortest duration. Option 2 is medium one. Option 3 is the longest one.

Duration indicates the time you will spend on the trip. Comparing three options of duration,

option 2 is the shortest duration for Los Angeles, London, New York and Beijing. So option 2 is

the best solution for the customers who are from these four places. Option 1 is the shortest one

for Hong Kong, so option 1 is the best solution to the customers who are from Hong Kong.

Layover time

Layover time measure the time you will stay at airport to transfer another plane. According to

requirements, it shouldn’t be too much because it waste time it also shouldn’t be too little time

because it’s not enough to registered luggage. The best choice is the medium time.

The Layover time of each route is shown below in Table 3, all layover time are shown in hours.

1. Los Angeles- The layover time of option 1 is the shortest. Option 2 is medium time. Option 3 is the longest layover time.

2. London- Option 1 is the shortest layover time. Option 2 is the medium one. Option 3 is the longest one.

3. New York- Option 1 is the shortest layover time. Option 2 is the medium one. Option 3 has the longest layover time.

4. Beijing- It doesn’t have layover time from Beijing to Changchun.

5. Hong Kong- Layover time is unnecessary.

Layover time indicates the time you will spend in airport to transfer another flight. Comparing

the three options of layover time, option 2 is enough time to Los Angeles, London and New

York. So option 2 is the best choice for the customers who are from these three places. Layover

time is unnecessary to the customers who are from Beijing and Hong Kong, because the flights

are direct air route.

RECOMMENDATION

Dragon Events requires our company to provide flight travel plans and accommodations

for their ten speakers. Our company selects three options of flight to help Dragon Events to

provide a trip for the ten speakers. They are cost, duration and layover time. All these options are

important to a trip.

Through comparison of the three options, we give recommendation to them such as the

following:

From Los Angeles to Changchun, customers can depart from Los Angeles on United Airlines to

Shanghai and transfer to China Air flight to Changchun. This is the best choice.

• Cost is moderate, it will help save much money.

• Duration is the shortest, it will help save much time.

• Layover time is enough, passages have time to collect suitcase.

From New York to Changchun, we recommend customers can depart from New York on Air

China to Beijing and transfer to Air China flight to Changchun. This is the best solution.

• Cost is moderate, it saves much money.

• Duration is the shortest, it saves much time.

• Layover time is enough, passages have time to collect luggage.

From London to Changchun, we recommend customers can depart from London on Air France

to Beijing and transfer to Air China flight to Changchun. This is the best choice.

• Cost is moderate, it will help save much money.

• Duration is the shortest, it will help save much time.

• Layover time is enough, passages have time to collect suitcase.

From Beijing to Changchun, we recommend customers depart from Beijing on China Southern

Airlines to Changchun directly. This is the best solution.

• Cost is cheap, it saves much money.

• Duration is the shortest, it saves much time.

• Layover time is unnecessary, it is a direct air route.

From Hong Kong to Changchun, we recommend customers can depart from Hong Kong on Air

China to Changchun directly. This is the best choice.
