People often joke that when a person has bad handwriting he must be a doctor. Handwriting is still an important part of our everyday life. We may spend a lot of time typing on a computer for work and less time writing things down, but it doesn’t mean we should forget the basic skills. The following may be useful for you to help a child develop great handwriting skills.

Writing paper is very important. Since children are discovering which way the letters shape and bend (弯曲) you need to give them enough room to experiment. Constricting their writing space will cause them to develop skills that wont be helpful.

Spacing between letters is a must. Before they learn to read words they see how letters of the alphabet (字母表) are placed. There is a space between each letter, not a large space but enough to show that it’s being reserved (保留). When they begin to write you can suggest that they lay their finger between the letter they have written and the letter they are going to write.

Express praise for any effort and correct with loving kindness. When children are trying things for the first time, they want to succeed. They see their parents skillfully cooking and driving and to them, you are the master, and they want to be masters, too. Help them correct their own writing as well; don’t do it for them or they will expect it each time. Pretty soon you will have little hand-written notes with backwards letters covering your refrigerator.

Find some handwriting worksheets (活页练习题) so it becomes more fun to learn how to write. School can offer that kind of lesson. Give them something interesting to do with their handwriting skills. It will help them develop more confidence. And remember that learning takes time. Try to make them learn something while they are learning to write, and you will get unexpected results sometime later.

B. Showing sth more clearly.

C. Throwing sth secretly.

D. Making sth narrower.

53. According to the passage, spacing between letters ____.

A. is useless for writing well

B. should be as large as possible

C. should be kept in a certain size

D. is difficult for children to know

54. It can be inferred from Paragraph 4 that when learning to write children ____.

A. need to be encouraged by their parents

B. need their parents to write for them

C. shouldn’t be corrected often

D. should often experience failure

55. We can learn from the passage that while learning handwriting, children ____.

A. could also develop other helpful skills

B. often lose their confidence easily

C. dislike learning it at school

D. should be given as much praise as possible

D

In my long years of teaching, I often ask my student to read the texts until they can recite them, and I tell them that recitation is an important part of their homework. However, some of my students are tired of doing so, thinking that it is both hard and useless. They argue that it takes a long time to recite a text from memory and text itself never appears in a test paper.

In my opinion, it naturally takes time to recite a text, but it is worth doing so. When you are able to recite a text, you are sure to be familiar with the words and expressions. When you need them in reading or writing or doing exercises, they will come to your mind quickly, and so you will give quick response to all kinds of language situation. How can we say that it is useless?

Besides, many students complain that they soon forget what they were once able to recite. This is true, but you don’t need to worry. While you are reading and forgetting the texts, your language level is being raised. Sure you don’t remember your Chinese texts that you once read in the primary school, but now you are able to read novels and newspaper. So, recitation of the texts will help you improve your language ability.

56. The writer often asks his students to recite the texts,_______.

A. But they don’t like to do so.

B. And they are eager to do so

C. But they wrote a letter to the Department of Education reporting the thing.

D. But they do more exercises instead of reciting the texts.

57. What do the students think about the teacher’s advice?

A. The English teacher tries his best to help them with English.

B. The English teacher is very kind to them.

C. The English teacher asks them to do something useless.

D. The English teacher should let them study on their own.

58. According to the text, which of the following is correct?

A. The teacher thinks the students are too naughty to learn English well.

B. The students think they spend a lot of time in reciting the texts and get nothing.

C. The students say that they often forget the words.

D. The students take no interest in English.

59. When the students are against his suggestion, the writer_______.

A. often criticizes them

B. patiently explains to them why they should recite the texts

C. wants to give up his idea

D. is afraid that he is criticized by the headmaster.

60. Why does the writer suggest that the students recite the text?

A. Reciting the texts can improve the ability of applying English.

B. Reciting the texts is the best way of learning English.

C. The students should remember all the texts that the teacher has taught them.

D. Reciting the texts can greatly improve the classroom teaching.

范文1: An unforgettable travel experience

The most unforgettable thing during my long summer holiday last year, of course is my trip to England. This was my first time to go abroad, so it really made me excited.

At firstI went to Shakespeare's birthplace. It was the house where Shakespeare was born and spent his early years. Its sitting room, hallway, bedrooms, and kitchen were furnished (布置) in sixteenth-century style. I also went to see the Shakespeare Exhibition. It showed Shakespeare's life and career in both Stratford and London.

I really enjoyed this nice trip to England, from which I learnt a lot. I'm very happy that I could visit such an interesting country. I want to go there again in the future.

范文2: An unforgettable travel experience

This summer holiday, I had travelled to Hong Kong with many other students. We went to Hong Kong by bus. Hong Kong is very small, but there are many people living there.

In Hong Kong, all of the buildings are very tall. There are lots of shops there and you can go shopping until about 11:00 at night. In Hong Kong, things are very expensive, so we only bought a few souvenirs.

We went to lots of places, such as the Avenue of Stars and Ocean Park. I like Ocean Park best. The park is very big. Sitting in the cable car, you can see two hills, lots of different flowers and the sea. Some students were afraid of sitting in the cable car! We stayed in the Shu Ren College. There are many big trees around it. We had meals in the restaurants, but I didn't like the food.

Hong Kong is very beautiful. I like Hong Kong and I hope to go there again some day.
