Tom was the son of a shoe repairer and he learned to repair shoes from his father. But Tom was interested in music and dreamed of becoming a violinist. He was sent to a music school to learn playing the violin. However, an earthquake destroyed everything Tom had and he couldn’t continue his study. Tom started to repair shoes to earn a living. Many people liked Tom because he repaired shoes nicely and fast. An old woman brought a pair of old boots to Tom and he made them look shiny and new. The old woman was amazed at Tom’s skills and asked him how he could do so well. Tom told her that fixing shoes with needles and threads was like playing the violin. The old woman got to know that Tom liked playing the violin, so she gave Tom a violin as a gift. It wasn’t a very good one but Tom liked it very much. Tom would play the violin when he wasn’t busy and his music attracted more customers.
